If I managed to make a safe pick-hammer, could I use it? The end would of course conform to the 2.5" rule, and have open cell foam. The haft would have adequate courtesy padding.

It's not so much a question of safety as it is of your rules. The Dagorhir handbook doesn't say anything about swung stabbing weapons.

If you need a better idea of what I'm talking about, I'll just make it and bring it next time.

A sword with a stabby tip is a swung stabby. However i think what you are suggesting is having the stabby tip on the back of the hammer so that the head is the blue side, and the back is the greed? Is this a correct understanding?

If so, i would say the reason it dosn't exist is because just calling it a double sided blue or red would work better. If you are swinging it 1 handed and you hit someone in armor with the stabby end...tough luck, it doesn't go through, but if instead that side was blue you have now damaged their armor. The point is this. it seems that making a hammer on one side of the head and a stabby on the other would be less effective rules wise, than just calling it a blue or a red.

To simplify, swung = blue/red. Thrust = Green. A striking surface of 2.5"+ that is swung is still a blue/red, not a green.

Also, no. stabbing tips on swung weapons are not legal. if it isn't in the rules, it is in the list of banned weapons.

not correct. a blue has a minimum length of striking surface. greater than 2.5"

Under bel rules there isn't a min blade length, under dag rules there is a 12" min.

I suppose you're right. A red swung weapon would pretty much have the same effect as a 2h green, except better.

What's the smallest my striking surface can be?

That's specific to blue weapons. There's no matching rule for reds.
