Are you guys aware that there is a marching band supply store in Kingman? About 2 hours west from Flagstaff, and about 4 hours NW of Phoenix. If we can pick them up instead of having them shipped, I would be willing to drive there if anyone wants to buy some. All I ask is that gas money is split between everyone, and that means one flat rate for however many you want to buy, no shipping fees, can get them the same day, and no handling fees for the 6'ers. The name of it is like Peacock or something, google it and see if you want any. EDIT: comparing the cost of shipping vs. the cost of gas the url is marchingworld.com Edited by Lhurgoyf, May 26 2009, 04:07 PM.

all you need to do is drive 8 hours, 4 hours each way, to buy a 6' fiberglass pole. or buy online and get 8 footers. Great find regardless. |

What do you buy at Marchingworld/Peacock? Those aluminum poles? I didn't realize aluminum was allowed. Can one buy one of those blank aluminum shields and cover it with foam? |

Can only use the fiberglass. for three poles, one 5', one 5.5' and one 6' it would be about $50, which is what it would cost if I drove, any less is cheaper to ship, any more is cheaper to drive. Also, 1 day shipping to anywhere in Arizona. I probably won't buy one anytime soon, though. Also, I wouldn't use an aluminum core for a shield... if someone gets a solid shield kick in your arm may not like it. How much does it cost to ship from Bandshoppe? Also, as a member of low brass, I have broken an aluminum flagpole, but have never seen a fiberglass pole break. Just my two cents. Edited by Lhurgoyf, May 27 2009, 12:31 PM.

Metal shield cores won't be allowed in the future, however now they are just fine. bandshoppe inflates their prices. You can buy the same poles at max gain systems for $3 cheaper and about $1 per pole cheaper on shipping. I have seen a fiberglass pole snap in half on a guy's knee. Guy will always walk with a limp now. I have also seen fiberglass poles be used to pick up 200lb guys off the ground. (a slash to one side hit a guy and then the user lifted the poor guy and tossed him to one side) |

Ehh, if I go to that Celtic Highland Festival, I may take a jog over to Kingman. If not, I'll buy some tube and rods from mgs. If I lived near my old highschool, I'm sure my band director would just let me have one of the older ones but meh/ The spreadsheet I'm attatching has the numbers crunched for the flagpoles Edited by Lhurgoyf, May 28 2009, 03:41 PM.

Okay, I'm going to order some for myself, so if anyone wants some let me know and you can by them from me for the same price per pole I end up paying. I'll buy some extras, so if people decide they want one later on, they can buy one from me. Right now 7 is looking like the best number of poles to get for the price. If you want one and we can get 7 poles bought, it'll only be $11.12 per pole, regardless of size, 5', 5'6", or 6", which is cheaper than the 8' 1" thick round tube from mgs. |

The new Dag MOA states that "weapon" and "Shield" are interchangable. So metal shield cores aren't legal anymore |

I'm going to be buying 6 6' poles from marchingworld. Four of them will be for sale from me for $15 a pole. If you want to combine orders, I'll gladly add your order onto it, and save us both some money. I will be at practice on Saturday, and will probably place the order on Monday. If anyone else wants to buy anything from there, I can add that as well and save you some shipping. Also, since it's in Arizona, it'll be here by the following Saturday. |
