Oops, i tried to move the topic into the foam smithing forum and i accidentally deleted it, sorry about that. but heres some tips on making a sword Making a good sword really depends on materials and I'm not sure what is available in Tucson. I would check out home depot and see if they have any fiberglass driveway markers (the 3/8 inch ones) http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100549628 if you cant find the fiberglass you can use PVC (1/2 inch schedule 40, the thick walled white PVC) then you will also need a can of dap contact cement http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100125525 and some foam, the best stuff you can buy in stores is the blue camp pads from big 5 sports if you get PVC then use this tutorial, its pretty good... http://eryndor.com/bwtut.php the only things i would do differently are, i wouldn't put duct tape on the striking surface, just on the sides of the blade, and the sword is kind of short, my sword has about a 36 inch core, the blade is 27 inches and then you need about 6 inches for the handle, and then another 2 for the pommel if you find a fiberglass core then you don't need to do the first step of the 1/2" layers to build up the side, you can just cut a groove down the center of your inside layer so that it fits over the core. you might want to call Magnus if you need some more help. Are you talking about the driveway markers with the red reflective heads? Even the larger of the two they had seemed quite skinny. |

yes with the square heads. they are 3/8th inch which is perfect for swords up to like 36ish inches long. |

Cool. I picked up two of them. I guess I just have to build up the grip quite a bit. And what do I use to make a 6' red? PVC? |

I dont make verry many reds but i would not make one much longer than minimum length out of pvc. i've heard good things about 3/4" fiberglass tube for reds. |

Where can I pick up some cloth tape? Normally I'd hit the sporting goods section of WalMart, but they don't have anything like that anymore. Is a sporting goods store going to have what I need? Or is there somewhere else? |
