You're very welcome! It's a great site, and quite accurate o.O Oh, and I just learned today that we're going to have a mock-election at our school! I signed up to help with anything I can... I dunno if we're going to be doing campaigning or not, though (I hope we are =D) This was an e-mail sent out by moveon.org after Palin's speech (just got to reading it now... The only part I didn't know was the eighth one, but that one is by far the worst, I think o.O) * Palin recently said that the war in Iraq is "God's task." She's even admitted she hasn't thought about the war much—just last year she was quoted saying, "I've been so focused on state government, I haven't really focused much on the war in Iraq." 1, 2 * Palin has actively sought the support of the fringe Alaska Independence Party. Six months ago, Palin told members of the group—who advocate for a vote on secession from the union—to "keep up the good work" and "wished the party luck on what she called its 'inspiring convention.'" 3 * Palin wants to teach creationism in public schools. She hasn't made clear whether she thinks evolution is a fact.4 * Palin doesn't believe that humans contribute to global warming. Speaking about climate change, she said, "I'm not one though who would attribute it to being manmade." 5 * Palin has close ties to Big Oil. Her inauguration was even sponsored by BP. 6 * Palin is extremely anti-choice. She doesn't even support abortion in the case of rape or incest. 7 * Palin opposes comprehensive sex-ed in public schools. She's said she will only support abstinence-only approaches. 8 * As mayor, Palin tried to ban books from the library. Palin asked the library how she might go about banning books because some had inappropriate language in them—shocking the librarian, Mary Ellen Baker. According to Time, "news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor." 9 * She DID support the Bridge to Nowhere (before she opposed it). Palin claimed that she said "thanks, but no thanks" to the infamous Bridge to Nowhere. But in 2006, Palin supported the project repeatedly, saying that Alaska should take advantage of earmarks "while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist." 10 Edited by Kejli, Sep 8 2008, 05:34 PM.

OKAY! So this is the presentation I'm going to give on our school's announcements tomorrow as a part of our mock-election which a friend and I are helping to run. I just needed to present Obama's energy plan... So honestly tell me what you think and give suggestions on what to change! As much as it's great to hear, just saying that it was wonderful doesn't really help much =/ I really want to outshine whoever's taking McCain's side! xP "In a quote from Barack Obama in The Audacity of Hope, he states, "It is hard to overstate the degree to which our addiction to oil undermines our future." If this energy crisis is not addressed immediately and effectively, our demand for oil will continue to grow until there is no more opportunity for change. Therefore, the energy plan that Barack Obama has proposed will address short-term concerns as well as the long-term solution we need. The immediate solution includes, in a simple sense, using excess oil company profits to give average Americans $1,000 in emergency tax breaks; preventing loopholes in the energy market from allowing the heads-of-companies from becoming even richer; and minimally and responsibly swapping some of the light oil we currently get for heavy crude oil to bring down prices. Within the next ten years, Obama also plans to eliminate the need for imports from the Middle East and Venezuela by getting at least one million Plug-In Hybrid cars made in the US on the roads by 2015, and giving financial incentives to buy more fuel-efficient vehicles, among some additional, more technical solutions. During the process of creating these more efficient methods, his plan will also create millions of jobs in the quest for 25% independence by the year 2025. It also includes the goal of reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions by 80% in the next forty years, making the United States a global leader and respected role-model on climate change. He does support drilling offshore as being among a package of temporary and immediate help, but not by any means as a long-term solution or as the focal point of his forward-seeking plan. His proposition acknowledges the fact that the solution to this dire issue is much more elusive than simply drilling now and continuing to ignore the issue until it is too late. Instead he has formulated a plan which includes many separate options which work together to help end our energy crisis while protecting the environment and American interests simultaneously." ... I really want to add Colbert's analogy with the card game! ... But I don't really know how to add it so it won't be really long/strange ^^; Edited by Kejli, Sep 23 2008, 11:20 PM.

I like the way you gave in detail the way Obama intends to help with the short term and long term problems dealing with the energy and oil. However i don't quite see why you put "...The immediate solution includes, in a simple sense, using excess oil company profits to give average Americans $1,000 in emergency tax breaks; preventing loopholes in the energy market from allowing the heads-of-companies from becoming even richer; and minimally and responsibly swapping some of the light oil we currently get for heavy crude oil to bring down prices..." in to this since after you say this it does not seem to connect to anything else you have stated after. like how does the "...using excess oil company profits to give average Americans $1,000 in emergency tax breaks; preventing loopholes in the energy market from allowing the heads-of-companies from becoming even richer..." tie in to "... plans to eliminate the need for imports from the Middle East and Venezuela by getting at least one million Plug-In Hybrid cars made in the US on the roads by 2015, and giving financial incentives to buy more fuel-efficient vehicles, among some additional, more technical solutions..." |

Ah, I see. Thank you! I should have made the transition clearer from short-term to long-term. I also added an introduction, since I felt like adding a quote ![]() I'm just a little afraid that at that part you mentioned it might get a little number-y and technical for people to really pay attention to ... But at past midnight when I still have Brit Lit to do, I dunno if I'm going to reword that xP Edited by Kejli, Sep 23 2008, 11:25 PM.
