Wu Chun’s Transition from Heartthrob to…Menancing Pirate?
Source: CpopAccess

Known more for his part in popular boy band Fahrenheit and in his roles as the quiet and serious heartthrob in idol dramas, Taiwanese singer and actor Wu Chun has been keeping busy with his upcoming role in the martial arts flick “14 Blades”. The Hong Kong-based production marks only his second entry onto the widescreen for Wu Chun, as he has also starred in last year’s tragic love story “Butterfly Lovers”.

Despite Wu Chun’s previous experience in the ancient Chinese period piece from that 2008 movie, Wu Chun’s new acting gig still puts him outside the confines of the safety and familiar territories of idol dramas and into a high-intensity martial arts setting. Furthermore, with Wu Chun’s entertainment debut originating in pop music, it will be interesting to see if he can keep up with the acting chops of established co-stars Donnie Yen, Vicki Zhao, and Sammo Hung. Whether he breaks the mold and becomes a competent actor like Leehom Wang, or fails to break the typecast roles that plague Jay Chou, remains to be seen.

It will also be intriguing to see how Wu Chun especially overcomes his new role as a villain this time around, but judging by the recently released promotional photos of him donning pirate gear, he’s got his work cut out for him already.

Ouch, that was a tad harsh. The author is correct that he's coming from a very different background and he'll have to work hard not to be typecast. That last sentence was disheartening. Yes, the costume is very similar to Jack Sparrow's but I personally thought he looked really good as a bad guy. I can't wait to see this movie and watch him prove himself; I think he's going to blow all of us (and his critics) away.

Yeah, that last sentence was unnecessarily harsh, I think. Something strange in the translation, or what? You know the media wants this movie to be a flop, so they can print articles trashing Chun. Terrible, but true. I thought it looked good so far, though. I truly think any fault at this point would be the director's.

Well, I think the media can get answer from Chun if they would just read Chun's latest blog!!! He totally understands and is probably already used to the fact that he will forever be criticized.. My only thing with regards to 14 Blades is that it is a big production HK movie, and I don't think they would even consider Chun if they think he is not fit for the role, I mean he's working with Donnie Yen, so I don't think they would just pick someone if they know he's not fit to play the part.. They chose Chun because they see something in him and that they know he can do it..

Hopefully sometime soon the media can just stop with all these nonsense.. right after the Taipei concert, it seems like every single day there are rumors about them disbanding, not getting along, Chun leaving.... hmmm.. the stupid media gave me an idea though.. I'll start a thread at our FRH spam and will jus make a list of all these rumors and criticisms about them, later on we can always look back and see there's some that were true.. if all turn out to be just nonsense, we'll hunt them down and give them the list! :D

I like the way you think, Ricca!!! Nothing like a good "in your face" to naysayers :-) Good point about the producers/director picking Chun. You're right - with their budget they could have gotten just about anyone they wanted and they chose Chun; he didn't go begging @ their doorstop to do it. I have faith that he'll do a great job and even if all of the *expletive* media can't see that at least we can understand & appreciate his hard work & dedication.
