Getting my hair cut Sunday, would like some input

So I'm getting my hair cut Sunday in preparation for the Oct. trip. Early I know but I can't stand my hair any longer and I want some time to grow out and/or fix it if I don't like it. I'm including 2 pictures of how my hair is now and some pictures from a magazine showing some ideas my BF and I had. Here are a couple things to keep in mind when making a decision:

1) My hair has *no* body and is extremely fine so it pretty much just lays flat all the time
2) I hate taking more than 30 seconds or using more than 1 product in the morning to fix my hair
3) My hair will not hold a curl to save its life
4) I hate having hair hanging in my face - it has to be long enough to tuck behind my ear or put up with a barrette/clip
5) I'd rather get it cut a little too short & let it grow out then leave it too long & go back for a trim
6) I don't want to end up with something wild enough that the church ladies will be offended or end up looking like this:

Here's my hair now; I've been growing it out for about 4 years now and it's about half way down my back at it's longest. I have lots of layers. My hair is brown w/ some old blonde hightlights and natural reddish tint

Some ideas:
1) Keep it long but dye it darker brown (but not quite black) then add at least 2 shades of highlights (red (as in engine red), auburn and/or blonde)
2) Keep it long but dye it dirty blonde with at least 2 high & lowlights
3) Same color choices but cut it shorter making sure to cut layers around my face to frame it

Here are some pictures showing some cuts & colors I like:

I like the darker color with several lighter highlights. The bangs & asymmetrical cut aren't for me

These are some pretty strong highlights. Not sure I want to go that wild but I like the drama of it. The cut is kinda cute, too but not sure about having bangs again; my BF says bangs make you look younger so maybe they're a good thing.

I like this cut and the way the layers frame the face on the right. I part my hair on the right side so I would need more layers on the left side.

I like the length & highlights but I would need more layers around my face
Posted Image
If I went lighter I would want lowlights and keep the ends darker, too
Posted Image
I love this darker color and the bright red highlights

I love how just the ends are red in this and the blunt, chunky cut at the ends

So I'm open to suggestions - what do you guys think would look good on me? Do you have any other ideas on cut & color? In the past I've had a lot of blonde highlights so I know I can handle going lighter. In college I used to dye it auburn so that's okay. I've never gone darker but my BF assures me it'll look good on me as long as I get highlights and don't go goth-black.

Wow!! These styles are all so nice!! :D Hmmm...I like the first one. I think that would suit you very well =) The colouring is good in that one too! But I think light blond highlights would look good on you!

Thanks for the input, Joanne. It's hard to tell in the scanned pic, I know, but that one has both blonde & darker red highlights. The cut is actually very similar to the one my daughter got today :-P If I go with that first style I would have to have layers cut on the left side as well and have both sides even. And isn't that style similar to Ricca's?? Yay to match my mei mei!

The 1st and the 6th one looks good! [= I've fine hair like you too! [= If u're planing to have a shorter hairstyle like the one in the first picture, maybe U could get a volumizer. That'll make your hair looks thicker and nicer. I'm using the one by Schwarzkopf. It's really east to use. All u need is to spray it on and blow dry it. [=

Ahhh, I knew I forgot to put something in my original post - I can't remember the last time I've used a hairdryer. The one we (rarely) use on the kids is the one I was given by my oldest brother as a high school graduation present. So that would make it um....15 years old. :-P But leave-in volumizer is a good idea, I'll have to check that out.

Hi! Lily here. Kayleigh's friend. Yeah. She'll explain later.

So. Rayne (OH, FUN NAME). If you're going for a shorter cut, I'd tell you to layer it like a madman right around the apples of your cheek as the mid layer, some really short top layers, and the longest layer just by the crook of your jaw and neck. Maybe a tad longer. But don't go higher.

Kayleigh again, she told me the rest. Okay, so she says keep a dark color so it will contrast with your skin color, with dark red highlights if you want them. The last photo has really nice color it in; would be really cute. Definitely need to have the middle layer BIG so it fwoofs in right by your mouth, with either full bangs or bangs with a part. The third example picture she said was a good length for the middle layer, you just want more so it'll really draw attention to your eyes and upper face.

I would personally say not to go with the dirty blonde, because it would remind me too much of my mother XPP Her hair is very similar to yours. Not that that should deter you by any means....

Lily went to cosmotology school way back when, so she knows a thing or two. That's why I had her share her opinion. ... Also because she's right next to me xPP

Thank you, Lily!!!! I really appreciate your input; I'll make sure to print out what you wrote and take it with me to the salon so I can tell the stylist the right thing. Dark hair it is then; that's what my BF was leaning towards (she too said it would contrast well with my skin) and I'm interested to see what it looks like since I've already been red & blondish. I think I'm going to do the dark red highlights - when I saw them in the pictures I was immediately drawn to them. I'm also going to do blonde highlights like the first picture but more of them around the front of my face.

My hair will definitely need fwoofing; my daughter got a bob yesterday with the longer bangs across the eyes and it initially had some body. Today it is hanging down so straight and I know my hair will do the same thing. So hopefully layered cut + volumizer = something that doesn't resemble a drowned cat. :-P

A big thank you to everyone's input; I really appreciate it and it looks like cut #1 w/ dark hair is the concensus. I'll post pictures Sunday night after church :-)

Well, doesn't Jo cut & sell her hair for money for Marmie? That would really be putting yourself in character :-) But I doubt that's the look you're going for :-P

Yeah, she bobs her hair for the money to give to Father. Have yet to memorize that monologue at the end of Act I... Almost there ^^;; I haven't asked them exactly how they want me to cut my hair for that yet, but I'd like to do it soon... And then obviously I'm going with the Ya Lun cut/color for all of October =D
