Back story of How Celebrities Achieved Successful Career Revealed Wu Chun Forsook Luxury to Find Oneself [2009.04.15] Note: Please credit wyn0602 of CEFC for translation of article and do not edit any parts of this article. Please quote this translated article (including this note) in its entirety. Thank you for your co-operation. Editor’s note: I have heard that Fahrenheit member Wu Chun came from a rich family. Wu Chun who had the feel of an aristocrat, no matter where he went, would attract numerous screams from fans. It had been said that life was full of dramas and art imitated life. In a fairy tale, the story of a prince was never ordinary. This young scion from the family of a rich Bruneian land baron also used his own unique way to portray his life. Since he was a child, Wu Chun did not like to ask for money from home, [I started to save up money since I was 13 years old. My father gives me spending money each month and I would usually use only half of it and save up the other half that was left. Because I would go on trips every year, this money would be saved to go shopping without any need to ask my father for any more money.] The business-minded Wu Chun started a business when he was only 19. He had opened a café-and-pool hall. At the time, he had designed all the menus himself. Unfortunately, because he later went to Taiwan to further develop his career and did not have time to run it, he was forced to sell the business. Wu Chun who was a fitness enthusiast, had firmly believed that a healthy lifestyle was very important to everyone. Therefore, after he returned to Brunei upon his graduation from Melbourne University, with only “I don’t like to use my father’s money” as an explanation, Wu Chun forsook the luxurious lifestyle of a “second-generation-scion”. He used three years’ time, what savings he had and a business loan of approximately US$ 150,000 as a starter and opened his first fitness center. Three years later, with the profits from the first fitness center and another business loan, Wu Chun now opened his second fitness center. The newly opened fitness center was equipped with the latest technology and machines. Even the daughter-in-law of the King of Brunei was a VIP member. Through this, Wu Chun was once closely associated with the Royal family, [Once when a fitness exhibition took place locally, our fitness center had a booth there as well, so I had met and even spoke to the King himself.] God gave Wu Chun a face that was made for television and he was destined to be associated with television for the rest of his life. Therefore Wu Chun who had never thought of entering show business, went through experiences that could only take place in a television drama and accidentally became a leading man. Before he starting in acting, Wu Chun was a part-time model. If he did not encounter Wang Xin-Gui, the producer for [Tokyo Juliet], in a movie theater, he still would not know anything about acting and filming. At that time, Wang Xin-Gui who had been searching high and low for someone to portray the male lead, saw a young man wearing a cap sitting in the row in front of him. By chance, he noticed that the way this person looked and the aura he exerted was very similar to Ji Feng-liang, the male lead that he had been looking for. Right away he chose Wu Chun as the best candidate for this leading role. Just like that, something equivalent to bread falling from the sky took place! However, placed in a starring role upon initial entry into the business, it was common to be scolded by the director for not performing up to par. That was the most difficult period for Wu Chun. He felt lost every day, like a wooden puppet that had a body but no soul. When it became unbearable, he would cry at home. He had even once thought about giving up his showbiz career. Luckily with the encouragement of his brothers from Fahrenheit, not only did Wu Chun tough it out, he even achieved beautiful results. Probably everyone on Earth knew that Wu Chun’s biggest interest in his everyday life was eating. As soon as he saw food, Wu Chun’s eyes would light up. Therefore, he quickly gained a reputation and a moniker of “God of Eats”. Speaking of which, it turned out that because of this moniker “God of Eats” that Wu Chun made a number of friends through this similar interest. One example was Harlem Yu who would challenge Wu Chun in a snack-eating contest during the filming of [Butterfly Lovers]. There was one time when Harlem went to the resting area to look for something to eat. He saw a pile of snacks on a table with a man sitting next to the table. So he asked politely, [May I have some?] The man said courteously, [Please feel free.] It was when Harlem started to eat that he realized he was eating snacks specially imported from Brunei and that the man sitting by the table was Wu Chun’s father. Since then, every time Wu Chun returned to the set after a couple of days off, he would bring back two large boxes of snacks. Inside the box, other than his favorite oatmeal and crackers, there would also be a pile of snacks specially imported from Brunei. Harlem, too, would demonstrate his “Big Brother” habits and whenever he returned to the set from Taiwan, he would also bring Dried Bean, Pineapple Cake and other Taiwanese snacks. The two idols would compete against each other with snacks which the studio crew and staff greatly enjoyed. There were two young women who could eat just as much – Ah Sa and Angela Zhang. Do not be fooled by their slimness. They could give Wu Chun a run for his money when it came to eating. Wu Chun disliked eating chicken skin which happened to be a favorite of Angela Zhang. Therefore, during each meal break, one would hear Angela Zhang calling [Wu Chun, let me eat your skin!] which had everyone around the table laughing uproariously. Losing his Mother Made the Prince Stronger With a rich background and a handsome face, Fate seemed to bestow special favors to this young man. One would think that Wu Chun would thank the Gods for letting him have the best in life, but he would tell you in a serious manner that [I don’t believe in God.] His mother who passed away from cancer a few years ago was a permanent pain in Wu Chun’s heart. When he was 22 years old, the year he graduated from university, he originally wanted to stay in Australia and start a restaurant business. However, he was informed by his father that his mother’s cancer took a turn for the worse and his older sister told him to hurry home. [Actually my mother had been ill for many years but she kept the knowledge from me and my brother and sister. She was afraid that it would affect our studies.] When he returned home and saw his mother’s stomach had bloated hugely due to water retention, Wu Chun was deeply pained. It was only then that Wu Chun realized his mother suffered from pancreatic cancer and it had already spread to the liver and lymph nodes. [Later, I took my mother to the States and Mexico. There were natural therapies and alternative therapies available over there. One time, a doctor poked something into her back and she screamed loudly. That was the first time I saw her in great pain. I felt faint right on the spot. No one could stand that type of pain.] In the last two weeks before his mother passed away, she was not really able to recognize people anymore. Perhaps it was the deep emotional attachment between mother and son that each time his mother would only recognize Wu Chun. Sometimes she would pull him near and told him that she was very afraid. His mother believed in God and sang prayers to the Buddhas. She would ask him to sing along. Wu Chun would sing along while crying. Every day he would tell his mother that she would get better…she would get better! Therefore his mother did not want to disappoint him. So she would take whatever medicine prescribed and go through however painful treatment available. But in the end, his mother was not able to overcome the illness. After that, he no longer believed in God because He was not able to save his beloved mother. After his mother passed away, Wu Chun was heartbroken but someone told him that his mother in heaven would not want to see him so sad and that he must be strong. Thus, it became his motivation to be strong. Now whenever he encountered any difficulty in life, he would face it with optimism and courage. On last year’s Mother’s Day, Wu Chun wrote in his blog: [Although I am not as fortunate as some people who have their mothers with them, but I often still feel that I am blessed because I have had such a good mother. That was enough! We will never know what may take place tomorrow, so it is most important to treasure everything we have now.] source: asianfanatics ...reading the second part of the article makes me sad... |

honestly.. i refused to believe before when i read somewhere about it.. and then there's a video of the guys before the first HK concert last year, when they went to a temple to pray.. and since it was subbed it read something like Chun's an atheist.. and i was like, no he's not maybe it was just translated wrong.. or maybe because that word just sounded more.. harsh?!? should i say.. but it really doesn't make him less of a person.. although it is really surprising, it sort of put a closure on this issue, since this is one of Chun's mystery that i was trying to solve.. |

Actually, I was very happy about that ^^; Although I thought about it again and wondered if it was because of his mother in a way.. I don't believe so, because of the way he was talking about singing the songs with his mother and everything. I find it a little comforting, myself, since I'm also an atheist, but I really don't think that religion has much of anything to do with who he is, so I don't really mind either way. He'll always be hardworking and virtuous ^^ |
