Wu Chun Loves Jordan, Good Food and Inspirational Books [2009.03.14]

Analyzing Wu Chun based on his shopping and collection habit, the main element of how he and his lover could get along romantically would be having common interest and conversation topics (Wu Chun loves Jordan!). However, considering that Wu Chun was always busy with work and had little time for fun and game, to be able to eat good food in the city or shopping for books in a bookstore was already his greatest enjoyment.

Even before Wu Chun arrived, all my female colleagues were already showing signs of unrest. The eyes of some of them lit up as soon as they heard Wu Chun’s name. Some even went as far as doing a group order for food to treat Wu Chun who was appeared in a rather low-key manner this time.

Wu Chun, holding two big bags of Jordan collectibles and wearing sports attire topped with a baseball cap, from afar, he looked just like one of guys playing basketball at the Song-shan Cigarette Company next door. Unfortunately when in Taiwan, his whole day was always taken up with work. He actually did not have any time to really play basketball at Riverside Park, so he could only rely on speed walking on the road for exercise. Like a familiar breeze of wind, if fans encountered this seemingly familiar face at the East District of Taipei, do not doubt your own sixth sense, because that person may really be Wu Chun!

Like any other person, Wu Chun would also go on and on when speaking of his own idol. When asked if he had watched a certain classic Jordan game from a particular year, Wu Chun exclaimed in a surprised yet excited manner: [Of course!] Although most of his collectible items remained in his Brunei home but Wu Chun always kept some Jordan collectibles with him wherever he went, [I would collect newspaper clipping of Jordan when I was young! I have so many at home!]

When surrounded by fans, if time permits, Wu Chun always maintained a smile and satisfied everyone’s desire in a friendly way. Wu Chun who once waited to see Jordan during a snow storm said: [I can really empathize with the fans’ feeling!]

Forever Idol of Wu Chun – Michael Jordan

[After Jordan retired, I don’t watch NBA anymore!] Because of Jordan, Wu Chun was willing to stay in snowy New York just to catch a glimpse of Jordan. Carefully preserving the newspaper clippings and basketball cards that he had collected, whenever he encountered misfortune, he would think of Jordan’s sportsman spirit to encourage himself to overcome any hardship.

[Jordan’s spirit of challenging oneself, never give up and never have regrets influenced my life.] Interested in basketball since he was 13 years old, Wu Chun was once a member of Brunei’s national basketball team. Whether in show business or in the world of sports, he felt that the more thought one puts in it, the more one would receive. He even took Jordan’s famous [It doesn’t matter if you win or lose. The most important thing is the process itself] as his own motto.

It was not easy to make Wu Chun cry but in 2002 when Jordan announced his retirement, Wu Chun flew to Washington to watch the ceremony. At halftime, when classic Jordan moments over the years were shown and the whole audience stood in ovation, such an overwhelming sight moved Wu Chun so much that he started to tear up. Fans who liked Wu Chun would certainly collect newspaper clipping of him. Actually Wu Chun himself liked to collect newspaper clippings too. He would collect basketball jerseys, basketball cards and newspaper clippings. When he went to Taiwan, he would bring with him some of his collectibles and would look at them out every now and then. The game that left him with the deepest impression was the NBA championship game of 1998. The Chicago Bulls winning the game with thirty seconds remaining had Wu Chun cheering aloud in an Australian bar.

He knew Jordan’s schedule by heart. One time he went to a restaurant in Washington that was owned by Jordan to try his luck and really did encounter Jordan at the door. Wu Chun quickly dashed forward to ask to take a picture together and to give Jordan a present but Jordan said: [I can’t stop to take a picture but you can take the picture as we walk. It is really cold so you better hurry home!] Even so, Wu Chun’s dream still came true. Wu Chun said: [It is also because of this, I can understand the feeling of my fans upon seeing their idol.]

Fahrenheit fans make the best friends <3

... I'm kind of speechless after this article ^^; I always knew that Jordan was his idol, but I hadn't known for how long and to what extent. It really warms my heart to know that Jordan has done for him what he and the rest of Fahrenheit are doing for me: influencing what I want to do for the rest of my life. I seriously would have never been interested in Taiwan if I hadn't discovered them. So many people view having an idol as being such a silly and superfluous thing, but they never consider what wonderful implications it can have! Because of Chun I was able to discover my real passions, and that's something I would love to tell him someday (not to mention all the pure happiness Fahrenheit brings). I guess that's why this article really struck a chord with me and reminds me why I loved Chun so much in the first place (and why I still love him so much).
