Sentry Gun or Sentry Nell? HMG or SMG? PS or CS? We all have questions about what weapon could be better to use, what weapon to use in some situations or what kinda of set we work better with. But, more important than that, what about our REAL weapons? Yep, I'm talking about the keyboard and the mouse. Everybody who played (or not) a match with me, is probably bored of seeing me QQing about my broken mouse, and since the mouse don't work that great I'm always forced to do something stupid like change to the PS and use the Dash attack in situations where it isn't gonna work at all or just stare at the enemy trying to shoot at least 1 bullet. But these days are over for me, I can finally buy a new mouse, but my questions is... Which one? All keyboards and mouses are pretty much the same for common people, since they all have same functions, but for a gamer this works in a different way. I heard somewhere that depending on the mouse things might change, not sure how much but still, the less frustrating the better. I lack the knowledge about it though, so that's why I'm not only relying on your help but also helping some of others players as well, this is a subject I think might be important for a few people. The same goes for the keyboard. So... which mouse is the best? What are they characteristics? What the difference between 'em? ![]() |

I use a Razer Copperhead. It's pretty good, uses a blue laser for tracking so it works pretty well on practically any surface. Gold Plated USB connector for better connectivity/less interference, 4 programmable side buttons (two of which I use for on the fly sensitivity adjustments), and some other technical junk. Pretty good mouse, but I recommend getting another model of Razer if you're thinking it; I got a REALLY good deal on this one though, so I jumped on it. Summary: Razer ish pretty gud. EDIT: on a side note, my REAL weapons are my two katanas, my katars, my rapier, my 3 epees, my saber, my broadsword, and my Ruger. Edited by Siarnaq, Oct 14 2011, 02:09 AM.

GOSH! WHY YOU ASKED THIS!? Now I'm forced to write a wall of text... well, I'll talk about my tools first and then have some recommendations about gaming peripherals. My tools of trade: Mouse: Razer Deathadder 3.5g @ 1800 dpi; 1000 Hz Best purchase of computer peripherals I've done. I have big hands so the thing is a breeze, to use, it fits my hands perfectly, the precision is great and the control I have with it is awesome. It can be set up to 3500dpi and the USB port can be overcloked through the drivers with the click of a button to 1000Hz for 1m/s of response time. This enhanced precision is not only good for gaming but for other stuff, like Photoshop and Illustrator (there is stuff I prefer doing with a mouse rather than the pen tablet). Has 5 Buttons (Right, Left, Scroll, and Two Buttons at the side, though X-trap blocks the Macros, it's useful for other games, like most shooters on Steam, for example). You can pre-set profiles on the drivers and swap then on the fly by clicking under it. It's an ergonomic mouse, so it's layout it's made to be used by right handed people, however, they made a mirrored version for left-handers, so if you're a leftie, make sure you get that one. My only complaint about it is the glossy sides, they made the grip a bit awkward at first, but I fixed it with some electric tape (and a friend did it with duct tape). They actually fixed this on the black edition, so if you're both right handed and happens to come across a black edition, get it! Also, if you get one, update the drivers and firmware as soon as possible. This one gets BB's Thumbs up of Approval! Keyboard: Everglide T-800 or Generic Multimedia Keyboard TBH, I prefer the multimedia Keyboard for S4, keys are softer and respond faster than the T-800, and they are better to type. Though it could be because I didn't used the T-800 enough to have "softened" its keys. Also, since I'm not a native English speaker, using a English Keyboard to Write in Portuguese is awkward due to the lack of some keys and the different keyboard layout. On the other side, the T-800 has anti-ghosting (meaning I can press more then 4 keys at once and it'll not give me an annoying buzz sound and will detect all the over 4 inputs) which is useful for RTS games. Now, for the tips.... These days if you wanna tools for especific gamers, you go with either Razer or Logitech. Razer Copperhead, Diamondback and Boomslang are good, but they're legacy Models, you won't find them on sale that easy. And the re-issues done as anniversary editions are actually more costly than buying a newer model. Like Siarnaq said, if you find a good deal on the, they're good options, but those are hard to come by. If you're going with Razer I recommend the Deathadder 3.5g, or if you have smaller hands, the Abyssus (but try to get at least the Mirror Edition, since older versions have a small jittering problem that can be annoying on shooters and sadly they can't be fixed because Abyssus lacks upgrade-able Firmware and with the regular version you can never know if your mouse was produced from mid-2010 onward - with the problem solved- or was an older version that was in stock - and thus having the little annoyance). I don't recommend other models from Razer, they may have absurdly ultra-high resolutions but they may suffer from jittering, correction or (specially) Z-axis issues due to the Philips Twin-Eye Sensor they use. If you going with Logitech, G500. period... Well, if you manage to find an old MX-518 (one with does have a sensor with a resolution inferior to 1800dpi) it's a good choice too, but those are not manufactured anymore and you'll depend on stocks and are hard to find. But really, the G500 is one hell of a damn good piece of hardware and the only "real rival" the Deathadder has these days, I wouldn't be able to say which one if better. The only other brand I'd recommend by now is Zowie Gear, their EC-2 model is pretty good, but try to get it on white color (they come with an anti-sweat coat that is god-send). Old Microsoft models are good too, but you hardly will find them, only newer ones with faulty sensors. So I recommend against it. And don't ever buy mice from A4 Tech or Steelseries, really, either their products are faulty or when they have a good mouse, they have faulty drivers and don't fix it - IRL friends and online pals have recommended against it enough times that I will believe in them. About keyboards... in a game like S4, to be honest, any keyboard will do. Only if you want to play competitively (I really mean professionally) on games like SCII, WCIII and DotA-derivatives out there, only then you'll need a gaming keyboard. My advice though is if you have to choose a brand go with Microsoft, Logitech (any of their basic models for office use will do) or Eveglide (their T-800 or DKT models). If you really need macros and stuff, then Razer, Logitech or Microsoft gaming keyboard. And since you live on Brazil, I'll recommend this store: http://mouses.com.br/ Best prices you'll find online here and good service. I've made deals with them twice and didn't had any problem. Ps: Cool drawing, bro! '-'d Edited by Blackbeard, Oct 14 2011, 04:35 AM.

Lol Yama! Yeah, my mouse has port and starboard ion cannons, 365 gigajouls of tekRAM, 3 orbiting spotter satellites with direct up link, night vision, infra red vision, ultra violet vision, invisible vision, 260000 RPM revolving blades, nanobot injectors (to increase user performance), IFF scanners/indicators, coffee machine, muffin button (for lengthy gaming sessions which require muffins), and a 2 month free trial CD of AOL (America Online).

Razer Copperhead all da friggen way I've had mine for a few years now and still runs like a bawss, I only had one problem with it where the cursor would sometimes move by itself, that, as you can imagine really messed up my aim and pretty much everything else. I found out after a few months of frustration that it was actually the mouse-pad that was at fault, had a Razer Goliathus, got it at the same time as the Copperhead. But yea, a new pad solved that problem, if you're ever gonna shop for a new mouse pad i reccomend you get one that's made with a rubber-like material like my current one ( a Cyborg mouse pad(I think it's silicone-based but i'm not sure)), it doesn't require much upkeep, but when you have to do it, it's much easier than with a pad like Goliathus. You could check out some of Cyborg's mice, I only have their mouse pad, but one of my friends has one of their R.A.T. models and although he wanted to sell it after he got it because of it's looks, he decided to keep it because of it's performance, it has A LOT of extra buttons so if you're also into stuff like LoL or WoW they can be pretty useful. So yea, basically Razer and Cyborg have great mice but they can both be kinda costly if you don't get a good deal, for a cheaper option go with a Logitech G500 like BB said, though honestly i have no idea about Logitech's prices EDIT: Razer Abyssuss seems to be the cheapest one. Just adding this link here, Razer Combo for Brazil: Razer Cyclosa ABNT2 Keyboard + Razer Abyssus at a price that is cheaper than a Deathadder. And if you're getting an Abyssus, I must reinforce Sin's advice: avoid using it with a cloth mousepad. It'll save you from any possible tracking problems it can have and will make you have your mouse working 100% all the time without jittering/skip issues. Edited by Blackbeard, Oct 14 2011, 12:38 PM.

They aren't bad, I use a Goliathus Speed (Cloth Pad) and love it. They are only bad when they are worn out or too dirty (and those things get dirty easy). Getting a silicone/rubber/plastic mousepad is a way of avoiding both issues (at the cost of having the feet of your mouse wear out at a faster rate). The problem lies on the two mice I was talking, the sensor that the Deathadder 3.5g and the Abyssus uses has a known tracking issue with cloth pads (the jittering issue we've I've been talking) that can be solved with firmware upgrade. With Deathadder the issue is solved by downloading a 3 Mb file, double clicking it, and waiting 2 minutes. However, there's no way to flash a new firmware on the Abyssus because it lacks on-board memory. Only way to get it fixed is buying one that was manufactured past mid-2010 or special editions (like the LoL Edition). With the Abyssus, using a cloth pad is a wild bet to check if your mouse has the new firmware or the older one, in order to avoid the issue Abyssus owners are recommended to just go with a non-cloth pad to avoid the hassle. |
