Silent Hill 5

Oh yes, I love my survival horror. And Silent Hill has not ceased to supply the necessary ingredients for a good survival horror game. Which is why I was really excited when I opened July's edition of Game Informer and saw that SH: Homecoming will be released this Fall! It'll show up for the Playstation and Xbox but, not the Wii. Sorry Wii owners, it doesn't seem like Nintendo is ready for some good, old fashioned gore. Don't get me wrong, I'll own a Wii by the end of the year but, they don't have much to offer in the way of FPS or survival horror. Now, Silent Hill: Homecoming is the sixth game in the series and naturally, the developers should bear in mind that this game simply MUST be an improvement. No skimping on this one. Now, on to some facts about the game:

Publisher Konami kicked this title over to a U.S. studio, a first for the company, called The Collective. The Collective is taking great care in preserving the original feel and mood of the game. Still, changes must be made and nothing is perfect as is. The camera seems to have gotten a much needed overhaul, with a free-style that allows you to examine your surroundings more closely, as well as rid you of getting caught by an enemy and not being able to see them.

Combat seems to have gotten a makeover as well, with more combo attacks and counter moves. Most of this is due to who the main character is.

You play as a soldier coming home from the war to find even more chaos there than there probably ever was on the battlefield. Your name is Alex Shepard, and your father and brother have gone missing, and your mother is in a catatonic state. Feeling responsible for your brother Joshua, you set out in search of him. A search that leads you to our infamous Silent Hill. Fans of, or just anyone who has seen the movie, will remember those staggering no-armed monsters that spewed a tar-like substance, otherwise known as Smog creatures, will get to see their return in this one as well, as you search for your brother in an abandoned hotel.

From there, sources on the internet say the game DOES have it's connections with SH 2, the one where you play as James Sunderland who ends up in Silent Hill chasing his dead wife.
"Silenthill5.net"

Among others, Akira Yamaoka has said that the story and "theme" of Silent Hill V will be similar to Silent Hill 2. Fans of the series have been quick to notice that Alex's surname, Shepherd, is the same as James Sunderland's wife in Silent hill 2, Mary Shepherd-Sunderland. Perhaps the relation to Silent Hill 2 was more literal than we thought? Or maybe its one of those "connections" between Silent Hills which the fans love. Recent media from the E3 Business and Media event in held in LA during July of 2008 revealed another "friend" from Silent Hill 2 will indeed be returning in Silent Hill: Homecoming.

This in itself makes me squee! I love name drops across games. Silent Hill has been good for that and I don't think this one is going to disappoint either. It's always fun when you know something that isn't blatantly shouted at you in game.

Akira Yamaoka composed all of the music and sound effects for Silent Hill, and will be joining The Collective in the making of this game..

"Wikipedia-Akira Yamaoka"

Yamaoka's sound commonly contains strong melancholy undertones and generally identifies with the dark ambient, industrial, trip-hop and rock genres.

I want love-Silent Hill 2

The music gives a sense of loss and desperate searching. A sort of, desperate need. Mr. Yamaoka does a great job bringing out the essence of SH in it's music. A game needs the right sound to set the mood, depending on what mood that wants to be set, and Yamaoka creates the atmosphere of Silent Hill perfectly with his music.

This game is due to release in September for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Sorry Wii owners but, it doesn't look like Homecoming will be coming to your console for a long time, if ever.

Feel free to post and give your views about this game as well.

Yeah. You're not in trouble or anything I would just advise against reserving a post and then editing it later.

I'd post something relevant to the thread but Silent Hill isn't my type of game. :P

I thought silent Hill 2 was pretty good... and I thought the movie was ok... Personally I'm not really a fan of survival horror games, and I have never really been a fan of most of them... Although, I did think Resident Evil 3 was decent. I still think my favorite survival horror game would have to be the first Parasite Eve game.

Parasite Eve was an awesome game! I was talking with my brother just recently about how they should bring that one back for the next gen consoles.

I'm with Cog in that I'm not usually much for survival horror... but I did love Resident Evil 1. So bad, it was just great.
