I figure since this is the music room, there should be a topic were people can be exposed to new music! So, if you have any songs, bands, or specific albums you would like to suggest to others feel free! My first suggested listening is one of my favorite albums ever, by the band Queensryche. This album was released back in the late 80's and is a metal masterpiece, and Queensryche single handeldy created the progressive metal genre with this record, which paved the way for other prog metal bands like Dream Theater and Symphony X. Every single song on this album is "single" worthy, and are filled with great melodies, some great guitar work, and soaring vocals! The album is actually a concept album that tells the story of Nikki a young man angry with the world that gets into hanging out with the wrong crowd and is then recruited into the underground organization code named: Operation Mindcrime by the primary antagonist of the story Dr.X. Eventually, Nikki comes to his senses and then basically begins a battle against Dr.X for his life and his sanity. I personally get sucked into this album every time I listen to it and I strongly suggest checking out this CD if you don't have it already. Here are a few of the songs: Eyes of a Stranger Operation:Mindcrime Breaking The Silence of the Night Edited by Cog-Sean, Aug 3 2008, 01:46 AM.

Today, I would like suggest a new cd I just picked up by one of my favorite Melodic Death Metal Bands In Flames!!! For those that don't know what melodic Death Metal is, I'm going to make it easy on my self and just give you the wiki answer: "Melodic death metal, sometimes referred to as "melodeath", is heavy metal music mixed with some death metal elements, such as growled vocals and the liberal use of blastbeats. Songs are typically based around Iron Maiden-esque guitar harmonies and melodies with typically higher-pitched growls, as opposed to traditional death metal's brutal riffs and much lower death grunts." For those that don't know In Flames, they are Melodic Death Metal band from Sweden that was actually created by some former members from the Power Metal band Hammerfall back in 1990. Since then, they have released 9 studio albums, won 3 Grammy Awards, and they have also won the "Best international Band" award from the Metalhammer Golden Gods. They are currently still going strong with their newest album "A Sense of Purpose" I for one will say they have been a big, influence on my song writing thanks to their strong use of melody and catchy riffs. I also really enjoy Anders Fridén's (the lead singer) almost abstract lyrics. here is the new single "Alias" off of the album "A Sense of Purpose" Alias Lyrics This song is from there last album "Come Clarity" it's called... "Come Clarity" Come Clarity Lyrics And here is one of my absolute favorites, called "Cloud Connected" off of their album "Reroute to Remain" Cloud Connected Lyrics Hope you enjoy, and remember to listen with an open mind! |

If you have an eclectic taste in music, one of my favorite bands, The Decemberists, is worth looking up. Almost all of their songs are about a story set in times gone by...about espianage and dying lovers. I suggest the songs July, July and Oh Valencia. I've seen them in concert 2 and was never dissapointed. |
