A booming voice cackled into the night sky as yet another innocent citizen slumped onto the ground, drenched in the crimson liquid of life. The man who possessed the voice smirked and wiped off his dagger before sheathing it once again. He stared at the carnage he had created for his mere amusement. Piles of bodies lay in lakes of blood. Lost families, destroyed lives, and quite a few new visitors to heaven to boot.

Still alert but finished with his daily fun, Shade began to made the return trip to his location of residence. However, he sensed that something was amiss, but could not quite make out what it was. He searched the area inside the village, with its wooden houses and church, and the pains which existed outside, somewhat flat, with the occasional bush. The stars mourned the loss of hundreds overhead as a single cloud momentarily eclipsed the full moon.

A light padding of footsteps could be heard in the distance. Young Thilatyl came out of a building, hearing some screams, he expected to find a fire, something innocent to explain what he heard, but what he saw caused his eyes and heart to retch.
His large beady eyes, perfectly piercing the night, saw a pile of senseless murder, no explanation, no clear motive, no sense at all. He gazed at the night sky, as if expecting some form of answer, someone to blame, or at least, an explanation. There was none. He found atop the pile a single man... with a bloody dagger, and he sensed a palpable aura of power... and anguish from him. Thilatyl stared at this man with an innocent face, shattered by this display.
He blinked his beady eyes twice as he started to shyly finger the rapier on his belt. He looked up at him, from a distance, and said one word.
"Why?"

"Hm?" Shade thought to himself as he heard footsteps and turned to see that a humanlike creature had stepped forth. With a semi-confident voice, it asked, "Why?".

Still smirking, Shade noticed that the creature had one of it's hands near a sword of some kind. Thin, and somewhat long. Shade assumed it to be either a longsword, a rapier, or a saber as his right hand grasped one of the Nyctalopia Daggers in his cloak. "Why?" He responded, not sounding angry at the moment, "Well, let's just say it's my way of having fun. And I see you're looking to try to stop me," he added to test the level of confidence in his opponent, "very well, you may have your way. Try to kill me as you please. It won't do you much good though." He laughed as he awaited the creature's first move.

Thilatyl took a step back and took his hands off his blade's hilt. He blinked at the man, horrified by what he heard. He blinked again, as if not able to comprehend what he was told. Random uncoordinated malice like this did not make sense to him at all. He gave the man a sad, innocent look before giving his reply.
"Do they look like they're having fun?" He pointed to the pile of corpses, then retracted his hands. "How could harming innocents like that even be considered fun?" He shook his head, disgusted at what he was hearing, and partly at what he himself was saying. "Are you even getting anything out of this?, or are you....". He coughed, unable to finish his sentence.. as if saying something like what he was about to would break him in half.
He then stared at the man with a beady eyed and innocent, yet sad look.

Shade could sense the amount of weakness in the creature. The fact that he was still rather naive made him unable to fight at the current moment, which made Shade rather unhappy. He didn't want this encounter to be all talk, that was too bland and happened more times than Shade could count in a day. He wanted action, and he was going to get it. "You know, if you aren't going to try to stop me, then I might as well kill you. But it'd be such a bore if I killed you in one stab." He walked over to the creature and shoved him with his left hand. "Or," Shade spoke a little more softly, "you can run away, and let even more innocent people die. The night is still young, you know."

As soon as Thilatyl saw the shove coming, he back-flipped away, tumbling with perfect grace. He did a semi-crouch on the ground, holding himself up with both feet and his left hand. He looked up at the man, now with a negative look that did not bely his innocent appearance. His right hand started glowing with a bright green.
He shook his head. "I've fought before, and only when I have had to, and when I did, those I fought at least had the decency to fight for a cause, if not a noble one. You're nothing, fighting for no gain at all, just to destroy."
He got back up on his feet. "You will trouble innocents no *more*". As he said "more", he pointed his pointer finger at the man, and from it flew a bright green beam, traveling quickly towards Shade. (Disintegrate spell)

Shade watched as the creature flipped backwards, and fired a beam at him. He smiled; this is exactly the reaction he was looking for. He sidestepped to his left, his right side now facing the Kobold, as the bright green beam shot past him, just barely missing his back. "Huh," Shade thought out loud, "He does have some fight in him. I guess I am going to have fun after all."

He then took out one of his Nyctalopia Daggers with his right hand, and reversed its direction so that the blade faced behind him. To keep the creature occupied, he tapped the bottom of the handle and connected it to his palm with shadow energy. Then, Shade tossed the knife at the kobold's head, making a halfhearted attempt at an attack.

Thilatyl took a step back, and reacting quickly to the knife thrown at him, he invoked 5 spheres of brilliant energy. He sent one off at the knife, making a glistening blue trail as it flew, and on contact, exploded into a tiny display of blue-white fireworks. It dispelled the shadow energy within the knife, and sent it flying upwards, and then out of sight.
Thilatyl bared his sharp teeth at the man. "You were *hoping* for this? What have you possibly to attain through this madness? Doesn't life mean anything to you?" He then closed his mouth, and took a stance of grim calmness.
Thilatyl then, with a commanding gesture, launched the remaining multi-colored spheres at Shade. They curved in an elegant spiral to reach their target. They made glistening trails as they soared through the air, (one yellow, one red, one purple, one green), poised to strike.
(They are starlight flares. On contact, they explode into a 1 ft radius explosion. They deal a small amount of positive energy damage and dispel magic on hit. They also have slight homing capabilities.)

Shade watched as his target created five spheres, each of a different color. He watched intently as one of them hit his dagger, exploding in a minuscule sphere of energy. The force of the explosion was not one to be laughed at however, as the knife was sent flying. "Aww, man," Shade spoke, "now I have to find that when I'm through with you." He ignored the creature's speech, save for the part where he asked if life meant anything to him.

"Oh please." Shade rolled his eyes as he summoned his shadow from an obsidian ring on his finger and crouched low to the ground. The shadow formed a solid barrier that covered a few feet horizontally and vertically which took the blunt of the spheres and their explosions, leaving Shade unharmed. "When you've died as many times as I have, you realize that life is a joke. It's all about living in the moment, doing what's fun for you. Killing people used to be my job, and still is, but now I have fun while I do it."

To counterattack, Shade took his shadow, which had just reformed from the explosions, and formed it into a spear-like shape. It traveled along the ground until it was just under its target. Then, Shade sent the shadow flying upwards at a startling speed towards the creature's legs.

Thilatyl then leaped a pace back, went into an army crouch, and invoked a magic mirror upon his left arm. It looked like a brilliant, glowing shield of light that illuminated the dark night sky, it's opaque surface looking much more cheery than it's surroundings. As the spear came up at Thilatyl, he placed the shield in between himself and the spear, and upon contact, the spear went soaring through the night sky, darkening it with it's very presence.
Thilatyl took a moment to stand up, shield still focused and shining brightly in his hand, and his right hand started to glow with a pale blue. He shook his head in near-amazement. "Died more than once?" He shook his head again. "*What* are you?"
He didn't decide to pause and wait to be attacked after that. He pointed his right hand at shade, as blue, freezing energy focused, and then he released a concussive beam of blue energy, and launched it at shade. (Energy shape: Ice Beam, concussive 5 ft radius, cold, freezes water on contact.)
