Has anyone read it, or intends on seeing the movie? It looks pretty good, I just saw the trailer yesterday. Today, I just took out the book from the library, and started to read. Personally, it's a rather...different book, but I like it. It's a graphic novel, and it hasn't been bad too far but there have been certain rather...well, graphic parts. Violent, and such. Overall, pretty good. The "narrator" as it were, Rorschach, is pretty much one of the biggest, kick-ass characters I've ever seen. His personality though is none too happy though, I guess it would be kind of Gary-stuish if he were though. He's spiteful, violent, calculating, violent....yeah, that just about sums him up. By no means though, is he stupid. However, I'll leave you guys to continue the discussion, or to read the book. Or both. |

Right now I am just preying to God that the film will do the book justice... Especially since the writer of watchmen, Alan Moore, has no faith in the film, thanks to Hollywood butchering all his other great work so far such as, V for Vendetta, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and From Hell. -the other thing it has working against it right now is that most of the fans have called Watchmen unfilmable. -but, on the up side it is being brought to us by the director of 300 who has been well known for staying very close to the original material. |

I suppose you're right, I can imagine how hard it would be to film the book. However, I'm one of those people who, unless the directors really screw it up big-time, will enjoy the movie for what it's worth and not complain about it. I didn't realize that V for Vendetta was a book for the longest time, and I knew little about League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. However, I've seen both movies and enjoyed them rather thoroughly and that made me want to read the book. I do know how Hollywood really does enjoy destroying good books by making screenplays of them. Nonetheless, I still want to see Watchmen only because I enjoyed the book so much. |

I really want to see the movie too, and I think if the trailer will be any indication the movie should be pretty good. I'm just a little worried because Alan Moore's work has not translated very well to the big screen. I will admit that when I first saw V for Vendetta I did enjoy it, and it did make me want to read the original book. Unfortunately, when I did read the book I discovered just how much better the original material was, and that in turn made me take another look at the film. Once I did take a second look at the movie, I discovered just how much the Wachowski brothers fucked it up, and manipulated the original material in order for them to get there own little anti-American political agenda across, and left huge plot holes in the film so fucking big you could drive a tractor-trailer through them... As for From Hell, and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, I personally thought they were epic failures when compared with the books which, I would have to say are 100% better then the films. I really hope watchmen will be a great movie, it's just like I said, I'm a little worried, but I mean all we can really do is wait and see. - A few things I do know about the movie so far: -they have already confirmed it will be a long movie (at least 3 hours) -it's going to have a hard R rating -they have been planning on including The Black Freighter material (I actually heard an interview with the director, who said that their script had 2 to 3 hours of the main story and 1 hour of the Black Freighter. Also, he said that if he can't fit everything into the theatrical release he is thinking about adding everything in for the DVD). -the director has confirmed that Dr. Manhattan will not be going to Mars in the film. Huh. I do want to read League of Extraordinary Gentlemen now. As far as those things go with the movie, the Black Freighter will definitely be an interesting add-on to the movie, I think I thought I saw the building Dr. Manhattan created when he went to Mars in the movie trailer. Either way, even if he doesn't....there could always be worse things they could do. I suppose it's a matter of time And then there's the matter of me getting into the movie - convincing my parents to let me go see it seeing as how I'm under-age. |

"the building Dr. Manhattan created when he went to Mars" will be in the movie, I just don't think he will be going to Mars to make it. |

The gyroscope looking thing Manhattan makes was in the trailer. 3 hours of, hopefully, pure awesomeness... But the R rating will probably stop my parents from letting me see it... Well, that's what downloading movies is for. ![]() And thanks for all that info, Sean! ![]() |
