Pathos Reborn
|
The houses collapsed and were reduced to rubble as the flames swept across and devoured everything in its path. A cloaked man cackled as he viewed his work. He didn't seem to be too wary of anything happening to him, but then again, looks can be deceiving. Fight Duration: 7 turns (This post starts turn 1) Damage measurement: Freeform (users keep track of their own damage) Edited by Austin, Jul 18 2008, 08:37 PM.

"Impressive." A man with pitch black skin leaned against a tree behind his opponent. His face was cloaked by the shadows cast by the branches above. "You didn't have any motive to do that, did you?" The newcomer spoke with a calm, almost insulting tone. The entire time, he was playing with a handgun. OOC: The Knifis used in this fight is the modern variation. "You didn't have any motive to do that, did you?" Shade stood still as an unknown voice called out to him, clearly from behind. He continued to watch the inferno rip through everything in sight. His ears also picked up sounds that had become familiar only in the past five centuries or so. Sounds of metal and steel, and a click. No cocking motion was heard, so Shade immediately knew that the weapon the voice possessed was not large by any means. "None of your business." Shade mentioned as a ring located on his left hand middle finger began to glow black, "Unless you want to try to make me talk. But that won't go well, I assure you." As he spoke, a shadow appeared beneath the assassin where there had been none before, a minor detail that would have not been noticed unless the opponent used shadows as well. |

"I'm not one for talking. Takes too long." Knifis walked calmly towards the mysterious man, unaware of the shadow under his feet. "In fact, this conversation is the only thing keeping you alive." His voice was calm, yet his movement wasn't. He leaped toward the sky and pointed his loaded magnum down at the man's back, his finger less than a second away from pulling the trigger. |

A true assassin knew what was going to happen next, and could anticipate and react to an attack in an instant. Shade first anticipated a shot to be fired, or an attempt to get in close to shoot. As a result, he had preemptively leaned to his left while pivoting on one foot in a counterclockwise motion before hopping just inches off the ground and finishing his 180. Now his opponent was just about to land, which was a highly vulnerable position, and Shade was two feet to the left of where he was less than a second ago, and facing the challenger. The counterattack came just as swiftly and quickly as the movement. Shade's shadow leaped upwards and formed into the shape of a blade, gaining its properties to a more extreme degree. The target was the gun which the man wielded, a handgun, Shade guessed as he spotted the weapon. |

Seeing the shadow blade rapidly approaching, he dropped the gun back into it's holster and whipped a sturdy battle rifle from his back. Because he was still in the air, slightly above the ground, he was highly vulnerable to recoil. Taking this into consideration, he shot the rifle at his opponent. This sent him flying backwards a good five feet, removing him from harm's way, but it also released a metal blast at the man. I suppose those games really did help, Knifis thought to himself as he rose to his feet on the charred ground. His first assignment since retirement was to beat his master in a mind game, where the goal was to defeat the opposing force. Since then, he played the game with 'Sensei,' as he is called, every day. |

Pathos Reborn

Shade watched his opponent quite carefully as the blade nearly made contact with the handgun. At the point where he could determine a true miss, Shade began to bring the shadow back towards his body. However, he noticed something much more urgent. His opponent had reached behind their back for something. Shade noticed the handle to a much larger weapon on the man's lower back, which he had not heard or seen until now. "A rifle?" Shade thought to himself as he took action by leaping sideways to his left once again, keeping his eyes on his opponent. The man's actions were also fluent and quick, and as such, was able to aim and fire at an astonishing speed, so quickly that the bullet had scraped the left side of his right calf, tearing a small laceration through a minor portion of it. In spite of being in a horrible stinging pain, Shade kept his focus and took out one of his Nyctalopia Daggers, gripping the handle with his right palm. The shadow which Shade was controlling based itself on the ground, and elongated itself with a tip that could pierce through metal. It shot upwards at Knifis himself, attempting to disable the man's left arm so that holding the two handed gun would prove to be next to impossible. |

Knifis stood, grinning. He wasn't grinning because of the graze, he was grinning because of how predictable Shade's actions were. Yet he knew better than to get cocky. There was a lot left in his opponent, probably a lot more than he could predict. Remembering how his carefree attack damaged his target last time, he attempted it again. He knew it could cost him severely, but he decided to risk it. Knifis jumped backward and to the side, giving him more space between the two combatants. After pulling his trusty magnum from his side once more, he sprinted towards Shade and dove just over his head, extending his free hand down to shove Shade into the ground. <If successful> He hit the ground behind the target as he tucked and rolled. In mid-roll, he launched a metal capsule in the direction of Shade's head. |

Shade's momentum was continued by another leap leftward as he watched Knifis grin. Using his anticipation once again, he switched direction while hopping and bringing his legs up towards his torso. A surge of pain shot through his right leg as a reminder of the wound it had taken less than ten seconds ago. Luckily, the bullet which came from Knifis's rifle impacted the ground about twenty feet behind Shade, causing dirt to kick up into the air. Shade then readily began to form a seal in his hands. He knew that Knifis would have to recoil for at least a second or so before being able to fire again, and a second for a minimum length seal was all Shade needed. He slapped his palm onto the ground as the seal took effect, spreading out over five feet in a circular shape. Immediately, it glowed, and everything within the seal became pitch black. To make sure that Knifis wouldn't attempt a shot into the middle of the circle, Shade leapt backwards out of the seal circle. His right eyeball, which was made of Obsidian, allowed him to see through the sealed area as if it were perfectly normal. He noticed his opponent jumping and trying to shove him in a downward direction, which obviously failed. |

As Knifis rolled out the other side of the seal, confusion clouded his face. He was not use to fighting magic wielders, and didn't expect any more than the occasional shadow blades. Yet here he was, standing with an unusual black pillar behind him. The magnum in his hand wasn't fired as planned, yet, being an assassin, was use to thinking on his feet. Knifis had tried the predictable and the idiotic, and now intended to do the unpredictable. Flashing a quick grin at Shade, he nodded with a quick flick of his neck before departing. Knifis was sprinting away from the fight and toward the still-flaming village. The entire time, one thought was running through his mind: What the hell am I doing? He couldn't help but grin at what Shade probably saw: His opponent stands up from the ground, nods, and runs off. The sight seemed hysterical to Knifis, yet he continued on his path toward the village. |
