What's your favorite (Or best, if that's how you roll) RP system, and Why?

d20, d10, and d100 systems are all good, and if they are well made, they work for pretty much anything. I woulcn't say that one is better than the other, it's mostly a matter of personall preference.

The two systems that I really can't get behind are the cortex system and "free form". The cortex system seems so unituitive and "free form" seems that it's more like you collectively writing a story at best or a "Nah Uh", "Yuh Huh" session at worst. Any attempt that I've seen to impose order on a "free form" system ends up with a creation of a slighty different version of an established system.
NO! THIS CANNOT BE! I AM INVINCIBLE!

I've never played a free form game, but from looking at the freeforms here at FAN, I do have to say it does look like a collective story writing. I've never heard of the cortex system, so please explain more?

The cortex system uses different sizes of dice instead of ranks in stats and skills, and you use those dice as the pools for actions using them. And Murgen is biased against it because it's only used in the Firefly RPG and he hates that setting.

Eh... I can see where Murgen is coming from with the cortex system. It does seem kind of unintuitive. I'll stick to d10, d20 and d100 systems, thanks.

Also, I like that show, so it's not like I'm saying that just because I hate the setting.

The only freeform RP here at FAN to have any structure is mine, using a modified d20 system that I roll for all the cast for. Everyone except DarkManticore, that fussy pleb tends to work with it fairly well, all things considered.

And if I had to pick a system, the d20 and d10 are definitely up there, but usually the core book of any system will make or break how it rolls. For example, Palladium is a jumbled mess during... well, everything, basically, as I quickly learned, whereas Mutants & Masterminds offers MORE freedom and simultaneously MORE structure.

I love Percentile for its simplicity (Roll under, determine if you ssucceed or not on that alone) And D10 for the sheer silliness of the settings (FUCK YEAR EXALTED AND OWOD) Also, I can;t really hate D20, as I started RPing with DnD 3.5, and although I have kinda sorta experimented with freeform (AKA Jeff and Cog (AKA Jake and Shane) takes us through hell and High water in an anime rendition of what could only be described as the oWoD after watching too many 80s Hentai Rape OVAs.

I still liked the setting we came up with, just, certain aspects of our overall system neededd work. Badly.

I personally like the freeform RPs since I'm a storyfag by nature, but It's understandable that it's not everyone's cup of tea.

As a DM, I'd say that d100 is the most simple and easiest to go with. d10 and d20 are both very good in their own right if you look at the more well established RPGs that use them. So yeah, it all boils down to personal preference in the end.

I'm into the storytelling kind of roleplay when it comes to the plot based ones. Because honestly, if I'm reading walls of text, I might as well be reading a book, and the story RPs are the compromise.

Back in the ancient Gaming Overkill days we used to Arena RP with a hybrid system comprising of T2 speed fighting and forum posting. Worked alright with an actual damage system that I never named, but when posts got tripped up shit got ugly fast.

Which reminds me, I have to finish designing the ARDOS system for Arena =D. That's months overdue isn't it?
