So, seeing as my DnD game got so much attention, and is kinda being slow, I'll begin something I've wanted to do for a while: start ups a game of Exalted. Q: What is Exalted, Dan? A: A PnP RPG where you play as a champion of the Gods, run over your foes, and either reestablish your empire of ages past, or try and knock creation straight to Hell (Or the Underworld, as the case may be.) Q: What do I need? A: You'll need the Exalted 2nd Edition core, your Exalt's sourcebook, and possibly Scroll of the Monk, if you want to go into Martial Arts at all, but that's not necesary. Those can be obtained here http://rs.4chan.org/?s=exalted Also, it probably will behoove you to get Dicetools. This game requires an assload of d10s, and even I don't have THAT many, so if you need that, google, it or look in my DnD thread. Q: What's allowed? A: Solars, Lunars, and Abyssals, initially. Once we all (Yes, this is my first game, too) get the hang of it, then you can roll a Dragonblood or Fair Folk Noble if you want, but I'd like us to get the basics down with these guys first before we run off into the nitty-gritty. Q: Is this game.....fun? A: HELL YES! Why? Well, beyond the obvious aspect of being substantially stronger than in other RPG genres, you get to do just about naything you want. Also, the more descriptive and cool your plans are, the bigger the bonuses you get to them. Q: This game's character creation is really wonky! What do I do? A: See me next post, where I'll lay it out for you. |

Okay, as per the last post, Here, I'll outline what one needs for an Exalted character, as I understand the process. 1) Character Concept. What do you want your character to be able to do? How do you envision them? Say, then, that I wanted to make the most badass warrior ever to grace Creation. Thus, if I was playing a Solar, I'd go with a Dawn Caste. If I was playing a Lunar, I'd play a Full-Moon. In order to get a feel for the niches the different Exalts and their castes fill, take a look over them in the Character Creation chapters of each book. Now, you need your motivation. This is important, as this is the driving force behind your character's actions, and being a Champion of your God, this needs to be pretty epic. Not "Protect this village," or "Be a good soldier" Protect ALL villages," or ,"Be the best soldier EVER." 2) Stats Your stats come in 3 groups of 3. Physical, which are: Strength, Dexterity, and Stamina. Social, which are Charisma, Manipulation and Appearrance, and intelliectual, which are Wits, Perception, and Intelligence. You get one dot (Or point) in all before you start. Now, you need to prioritize the three stat blocks as primary, secondary and tertiary. The primary gets 8 dots to put in any way you want, so long as no stat goes above 5, secondary gets 6, and tertiary gets 4. Got all that? Good. 3) Abilities. This is what your character can do well. You get five abilities as you “Caste” abilities as a Solar/Abyssal, and you get Survival as a Caste ability regardless of caste as a Lunar. Lunars are unique in this regard in that you get to choose what and where you excel, to a point, you DO need to have one martial discipline (IE Melee, thrown, archery or martial arts) as a favored (an ability you get as training outside your Caste ones. You get 5 of these as a Solar/Abyssal) ability as a Lunar, as well, but that’s just common sense, applicable to ANY Exalt. I’ll let you make your choices, but bear in mind to get a good mix of both combat, social, and support abilities, and to focus on a few. You then get 10 points to put into your favored/caste abilities. You need to put at LEAST one dot in all of those. Also, you get 18 extra points as a Solar/ Abyssal and an extra 25 as a Lunar to get other abilities/ strengthen your caste/favored ones. These can go anywhere, so if any other abilities catch your eye outside of the ten or so you already have, get it. If not, focus on your existing abilities. 4) Background: This is where the fun REALLY starts. You have seven dots to put into ANY Background you want, which are listed in the core book under the “Traits” section, or in your Sourcebook in the Character Creation chapter. These allow you to fill areas you couldn’t in the stats/ abilities stage, and adds more depth to your character. Just to note, resources, artifacts, and backing are all good places to begin, as are Manses (secret bases which allow you to rest easier) and cults (Which allows you to regain your Magical Essence quicker.) Bear in mind you can only bring any BG up to 3 here. But, if you’re dead set on doing so, you’ll have a chance to do so at the end of the character creation steps. 5) Virtues: These set the priorities of your character. You have 5 dots to put into the four virtues of Valor, Temperance, Compassion, and Conviction. You also must select ONE emotion limit break and the conditions for it in your char sheet. Look in the “Traits” chapter for examples of good limit breaks. 6) Charms: Now HERE is the best bit, in my opinion, of the whole deal. Charms are your character’s special magical powers you can use. You get ten as a Solar or Abyssal and seven as a Lunar. Try to get a good mix of caste function charms, attack charms, and defensive ones as well (Both combat and social combat charms.) Ox Body technique and healing charms are also very good purchases. Finally, be aware of the requirements of the charms, as many require abilities of a certain level or other charms to be purchased before they can be bought. Note: As a lunar, you get shape shifting knacks along with your charms. These can be bought with your charm slots, but you MUST have at least 1 knack, and 4 charms corresponding to your favored abilities) 7) Record Essece (It starts as 2) Willpower (Add up the sum of your two highest virtues) and your personal and peripheral Essence Pools. If you were wondering about the Cost: Xm with the charms, those were motes of Essence. These come from your Essence Pools (Personal first, then Peripheral.) You calculate these by getting the results of (Essece*3)+ Willpower for Solars/ Abyssals, and Essence+ (Willpower*2) for Lunars. Peripheral Essence is ((Essence*7)+ Willpower + Sum of the Character’s Virtues) for Solars/ Abyssals, and (Essence*4)+ (Willpower*2)+(Highest Virtue*4) for Lunars. As one can see, its important to keep high Essence and Willpower ratings, and while Essence can never go down, willpower can, and is needed for some charms to work. As such, be VERY cautious when using your willpower, as it is difficult to earn back. 8) Finally, you get 15 bonus points to use where you wish. You can use these to increase your essence, buy more charms, or even add more Backgrounds. Do with them as you will. The cost for each of these is in the character creation summary, or page 93 for Abyssals, 103 for Lunars, and 86 for Solars. 9) If you are wondering where one can buy weapons and/or artifacts, look under the Panoply section for the Core rule book. There, you can look for the dot prices of items and artifacts. If it seems odd, just remember this , if the item you are looking at is below your resources rating, you can buy it easily, if its equal, it’s a significant investment, and your resources rating goes down by one. If it is higher, then you can’t buy it. As for artifacts, you can buy as many dots of them as you paid for in the background. Thus, if you paid for three dots, you could get a three dot artifact, or any combination adding up to three. Bear in mind the commitment costs (The motes of Essence you need to spend to remind the item that YOU are its owner) Epilogue: It is also good to record your health tracks, which are seven if you didn’t buy any health increasing charms, along with your Parry/ Dodge Defense Value. These can be determined by these calculations DDV: (Dodge+ Dex+ Essence)/2 PDV: (Dex+ Martial Ability used to wield weapon+ Specialty bonuses+ Defense bonus OF the weapon)/2 MDV:….We’ll get to that weh new get started. Also, try to write down a short blurb describing your character, their life prior to exaltation, and their goals now that they have. Well, that was it. Not TOO hard, was it? |

After some deliberation, I decided to grant the players all some extra EXp, so once you start, you can increase your starting points to 30. However, you CANNOT increase your essence above 3. That would just be unfair. |

Okay. Now that we kinda sorta have a Circle of peeps, let us begin.... You find yourselves in the endless wastes of the Scavenger Lands. A hamlet of shack can be seen in the distance to your East. Nothing much else can be seen. Aemilia sighs, "Phantom said there'd be soemone here to help us....Where could they be?" |

Gunn calmly surveyed the scene. He couldn't even remember why he offered to come along again, but here he was. He shrugged calmly, then gestured over to the shack in an annoyed fashion. "Over there, maybe?" |

Just as Gunn casually points to the town, a flying creature appears, which, in time, reveals itself to be a gaudily dressed figure in green, red and blue armor riding what looks to be the unholy union of a raptor and a plains lion. In a neutral, high-pitched voice, it commands, " Leave these grounds, Creation-Born. These lands fall under the fiefdom of the barony of painted Mirrors. If thou shalt not flee, then we shall do righteous battle." |
