The Ward estate is just up the Roanoke River from the tiny settlement of Plymouth, and a few day's ride from the port of Edenton, the closest thing to what you might think of as a city in the intensely rural inner banks.

The main house sits on is right up a short dirt road from the docks, on a large yard filled with Magnolia trees and a few well kept gardens, in stark contrast to the the acres of tobacco fields and marshland extending in any direction around it.

Those who do venture this far into the Carolina lowlands to see Mr. Ward can expect great hospitality for their effort.
