The 2009 Forza Le Mans Series has recently announced its intentions to finish in style, with the non-championship season finale at Circuit Le Sarthe, for the first running of the Grand Prix of endurance, the 24 hours of Le Mans. This announcement coincided with the launch of Forza Motorsport 3, which is to be the platform for the race. Competitors from many different backgrounds will contest in this gruelling test of stamina and ability, which is to be held in December of this year. The racers will drive in 3 classes that will run simultaneously on the 13 Kilometre track in the French countryside. Much of the track consists of dusty and bumpy public roads, and the fastest cars will reach speeds of over 200mph whilst travelling on them. The 3 classes are LMP1, for the fastest racing prototype cars that are built purely for racing: A car from this class will usually be expected to win the race overall… GT1, extensively modified production supercars that bare very little more than cosmetic links for their road counterparts. And finally GT2, supercars that are still heavily modified, however share closer links to the road cars they are based on, and are traditionally the slowest class of car on track. However, don’t be fooled: even the ‘slower’ GT2 cars will frequently reach speeds of over 170mph on the course of the track. The race will serve as a useful practise race for teams in the FLMS as they transfer from Forza Motorsport 2 into their new home in Forza Motorsport 3, it will be interesting to see just how the competitors cope with the adaptation, and how much the ‘old order of things’ will be shaken up. One of the biggest changes that the drivers will have to cope with is sharing their car, which will be mandatory in the longer events on Forza 3: for this race drivers will pair up… To help explain ‘who is who’ here is a brief guide to the current entry list for the race, starting at the top in LMP1: Currently heading up the LMP1 side of things is the pairing of Jam 13UN and LoneInquisitor. The pair will be driving either the Lola Aston Martin or the Audi R10 TDI (Depending on the Lola’s release), Jam 13UN is currently leading the GT2 category, with 3 wins, in his Risi Competition Ferrari F430GT and is hoping to make the leap to LMP1 cars cleanly where his teammate has been racing successfully, claiming one win so far in the season… Another competitor expected to be racing well in the LMP1 category is Ablougabla, however he is yet to have found a teammate for the event and has little experience due to suffering from problems with his Forza Motorsport 2 game. But it would be foolish to count him out of the running as he has shown moments of brilliance whenever he has been able to drive his Bentley Speed 8 in the FLMS so far. Finishing off the LMP1 group is the RR Davethesky / Flipsicato pairing who are one of the many new entries into our series! 2 newcomers to the FLMS group fill the GT1 category. The two teams will battle it out in a traditional battle between Corvette and Aston Martin, it will be the last time that these two marks race against each other in the GT1 category and we hope to give a fitting send-off to the wonderful DBR9 and C6.R. Intercityboy and Drewski TM will be looking to claim the GT1 honours for Aston Martin, whereas Lukeymonster’s Corvette team will have different plans… Finally, but definitely not least the GT2 category looks set for another gutsy race. By far the favourites for taking the class honours are the pairing of snmf1 and Slappia in their Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RS. They are arguably the best pairing in the entire field and will certainly be favourites in this class. This class again has newcomers with F34RTEHR34PER joining the action. Finally the GT2 class has an open space available for anyone who is interested in this racing! For more information about the race and for sign-up details and more please join our forums at http://s1.zetaboards.com/Forza_F1 and view the appropriate area for the race. Also if you want to follow us as we race for the full 24 hours please join the forums as I will hopefully be setting up a twitter page where the drivers and teams can post updates on their progress, pictures of the race, and videos of our driving for everyone to watch and enjoy. Thanks for any support and please do not hesitate to ask any questions you have on the forums or here on the post. Keep looking out for our next press release at the end of September, and at the end of October when all cars and drivers will have been confirmed! |
