Pre-race Information

The majority of the pre-race build up was to do with the stewards enquiry into incidents at Sebring Short. Jam seemed to be at the centre of it all, with both Minardis being investigated as well. However, the stewards saw no reason to penailse anyone. A lot of joint testing went on between Slappia (who badly needs a good result here, after a terrible start due mainly to bad luck) and Jam 13UN. Slappia seemed to have a clear setup and speed advantage, but could he translate this into a result?

Qualifying
Pole position was grabbed by Slappia within the first 5 minutes of the qualifying session. He easily translated his advantage in testing into pole and was the only driver to break the 0:47 barrier. He then spun and crashed out on lap 4, ending his session. Mazda323fje suffered a similar fate early on too; a 0:50.387 was good enough for 4th. This left Jam 13UN and robbezzz to battle. Jam had the advantage during the first 15 minutes of the session, despite complaining of understeer, and was sitting in second. However, in a strange incident, mazda and Jam collided in what can only be described as a misunderstanding. Jam could not improve now with a damaged car. Robbezzz found the extra few tenths of a second he needed and grabbed second away from an annoyed Jam.

Grid Order

1. Slappia [McLaren] - 0:47.753
2. robbezzz [Minardi] - 0:48.107

4. mazda 323fje [Minardi] - 0:50.387
5. kablooee [Ferrari] - No Time Set
6. LoneInquisitor [Jordan] - No Time Set

The Race

After some restarts, the race eventually got under way. Slappia made quite a slow start from pole and this allowed robbezzz to draw along side the McLaren going in to turn 1. Jonny had the inside line and held his position. Further back,

Team by Team Review
Ferrari - A much better race for the Scuderia after a somewhat disappointing race at Sebring Short. Jam will be dlighted to take his second win of the season in quite some style, whilst their reserve driver kablooee got his first opportunity and scored a few points for the team.
McLaren - The bad luck continues for the Woking based team. Slappia was the only driver to compete, with his number 2 and his reserve both unavailable. He was clearly the fastest in testing and qualifying, with the same pace in the race as well. But a mechanical failure not long from the end of the race meant that it was another no score for them.
Jordan - There was no Jordans at qualifying but LoneInquisitor turned up just in time to ensure that they would at least be represented in the race. However, his pace was not enough to keep with the rest of the field, but made the most of Slappia's retirement to secure 4th place. And blackhawk501 still hasn't been seen at any events so far.
Minardi - The two Minardi drivers both had podium place finishes, with robbezzz second and mazda323fje on the bottom step. They were both moved up a place by the retirement of Slappia, but none-the-less this was a strong showing once again by the team. They will be especially tough to beat in the Constructors Championship, where they still have a commanding lead.

Driver of the Day
Jam 13UN recieved the most votes for Driver of the Day. He made a one stop strategy really work for him and emerged after all the pit stops in the lead of the race. Slappia disputes whether he would actually have won the race if the Northern Irishman hadn't retired with a mechanical failure, but his pace was electric.
