1. Thou shalt be as legible and literate as possible. This is as much a writing site as a roleplay site. Everyone has different degrees of writing ability in both spelling and grammar, and no one is perfect. However, because this is a forum and not a chatroom, not only do you have the time to compose your posts without using l337, you are expected to do so. As long as you are making an effort you will not be penalized for bad spelling or grammar, but l337 and chat-speak will not be tolerated in-character. The occasional use out of character is acceptable, but the staff will give you a warning if you overuse it. 2. Thou shalt keep a civil tongue. This is a site for mature people who can be polite to each other. That said, if you feel you have to duke it out with another member of the site, do it in The Arena or via private messages. If you and one or more other members have a problem with each other, keep it to one thread. If your petty squabbles spread to outside these boundaries, all involved will be placed under a temporary ban. Repeat offenses will result in longer and eventually permanent ans. Also, watch yourself around topics of race and religion. While I am fine with friendly jabs between friends, neither I nor any of the staff will tolerate attacking someone for their religious beliefs or ethnicity. On the same note, do not preach or proselytize outside of the Arena. If you are asked about your beliefs you are allowed to answer, but do not force your beliefs on anyone. 3. Thou shalt never argue with the Staff. This is the only rule I will allow to be bent, and only in the event that you feel you have been unfairly treated in a decision. The staff is the final say on any argument, and in the event that members of the staff disagree on something I am the final authority. If they tell you that a character needs to be edited before it can be approved, you will change what they indicate is wrong. If you don't understand what they are asking of you, then ask. 4. Thou shalt never God-Mod. Your character is fallible. Your character will never dodge every bullet and parry every blow. If hit, your character will not shrug off a killing blow like a bee sting. Your character will not always hit, and they will not always hit hard. You will never, NEVER, under ANY circumstances, kill another member's character without their expressed permission. You are allowed to manipulate the characters of others in minor ways, such as pulling another person's character out of the way of sudden gunfire or having them help your character set up camp at night, for example. If given permission, you can play another member's character if said member is going to be absent for more than a few days, but ONLY with permission. 5. This is not a place for porn or erotica. While the theme of this site is dark and mature, graphic sexual content is not permitted. It is perfectly acceptable for your character to visit a whorehouse, but do not go into graphic detail of what your character does there. 6. Thou shalt not be a whiner. This rule has several meanings: A. Don't be a little bitch. If you can't handle strong language and cursing, then you are free to go elsewhere. You do not have to use strong language yourself, but don't get bent out of shape if someone else does. B. If your character requires changes, don't complain unless you are really being treated unfairly. If a moderator tells you something needs to be changed, it's because your character is overpowered or something doesn't make sense. Do not complain if your character is criticized; the staff will only use constructive criticism, and in the event that a staff member does not I will take care of it. C. If someone says something you don't like, get over it. People are allowed to think differently than you. If you feel you are being harassed, tell a staff member and it will be taken care of. If you send us a complaint every time someone so much as pokes you, you will be told first to stop being a bitch and then you will be ignored. 7. Thou shalt not assume control of another person's adventure. For the most part, this is a continuation of the God-Mod rule, but in a different light. If a person has a complex adventure planned out, they should give you cues as to what's going on behind the scenes and what your character would know. If they don't, then ask them. Do not assume that your character is able to make their way to the bad guy before the person running the adventure has time to introduce them. Don't start making up details about how a bandit group operates or the methods used by a secret government agency when the person running the adventure has only hinted at such things. 8. Thou shalt not prevent others from having fun. If you're the type of asshat who's going to say that you're not able to have fun because of the Staff enforcing the rules, then you can get the fuck out and stay the fuck out. This is a place to have fun without ruining it for everyone else. If you can't have fun unless you can have a character that's a mutant cyborg ninja with machine-gun katanas and muscles big enough to choke a T-Rex that beats the ever-loving shit out of everyone's characters, then we don't want you here. Play nice. Don't be thin-skinned. And work with the people around you when you're in an adventure. 9. Thou shalt never assume anything that isn't written down. If there's a gray area about a race, creature, plant, organization, government, or bit of history, ASK BEFORE YOU START MAKING SHIT UP. There is only so much that the staff can get into print at a time, and there will always be little things that need to be addressed. If you just start assuming the world works a certain way and adjust your adventures and characters accordingly, you run the risk of making an assumption that does not line up with what we are trying to build. You will be notified of the changes you need to make, and if you do not make the changes yourself then a member of the staff will simply delete the offending material. Repeat offenses may result in a temporary ban. It's not going to bother us if you just ask, so do it before you start guessing. 10. Ignorance of the rules is no excuse. If you couldn't find the rules, you should have asked. If you claim to have not known about these rules when we tell you of something you did wrong, then you will be provided with a link to the rules and warning. We operate on the following standard: You will be given two warnings before a temporary ban is placed on you. Each time you return from a ban you will get one warning and then another, longer ban. If you keep it up, you will swiftly be permanently banned. These Edited by Vaultdweller, Oct 27 2008, 04:19 PM.
