This is a completely free-form, open-ended RPG. You are free to use any character you want (save for ones that aren't your own, of course) and add anything you want to the story, so long as it does not conflict with what has already been presented.

Snow fell upon the castle's highest peaks, far out of Eduard's reach. He had to squint to make out the exact shape of the castle. He finally gave in and put on his glasses, the world sliding into focus. He gasped silently in awe of the ancient citadel. He smiled; so this was the unnamed keep that they had sought after for so long.

Eduard took off his glasses and held them. "Frederik," he said to the man on the horse in front of him. While Eduard's steed was a plain, brown mare, Frederik had chosen his finest black stallion. Its coat did not shine but seemed to form a shade against the pure-white backdrop of snow that covered the landscape. It disturbed Eduard, these frozen barrens, void of all life. The bark of the forest trees seemed as black as the horse that his partner--no, not partner, perhaps tour guide, perhaps a guard--rode upon. The trees were offputting in their lifelessness when he stood still, but they disturbed Eduard greatly as his steed trotted along. They seemed to come alive, to move, to twist within his unsteady vision.

"Yes, Eduard?" Frederik said, his regal accent as crisp and haughty as ever. "What is it?"

"How old is our destination, do you know?" Eduard was going to ask something else, but decided against it. No, he wasn't going crazy. There were things to do, catacombs to unearth. Oh, an adventure to be had! But Frederik wouldn't allow Eduard to go on if he was crazy, no. So he kept silent about it.

"This castle is thought to have been last inhabited sometime before America declared its independence--" That's almost a century! Eduard thought, "--but its history dates back to the 1300s. Before that, it was actually a small town that collapsed into a sinkhole around 1154. And before that, it was a grand monastery that collapsed in an earthquake. And before that... well, history goes on, but there was a Nordic feasting hall built somewhere around that, as well as many other significant structures that collapsed in some way or another."

Eduard listened with rapt ears as Frederik went on. "But... why here? This is practically the middle of nowher--"

"It's served its purpose in the trade routes of yesteryear, I assure you," Frederik interrupted. Eduard sighed and simply followed on horseback.
