Name: Marik Cintalen

Gender: Male

Age: 21

Class: Cavalier

Appearance: ((Click Here For A Pic))
Marik is the spitting image of his father, Pern Knightly, the Emperor of Bari. Sapphire blue eyes, black hair, a broad, strong build...Some wondered for a while if the emperor just hadn't found a way to become younger, the resemblance was so strong. However, from growing up as a commoner instead of a pampered prince, he is a bit more rugged, with a bit of a tan and more than a few scars.

Also, the way he grew up means that he doesn't really wear the finest clothes. When not in his armor, which is black and red, as is Bari's colors, he wears simple, comfortable clothes. Nothing elaborate or fancy. Just decent and dependable traveler's garb.

His armor, as stated, is in Bari's colors. It is a standard issue given to the royal guards, as is his sword, only modified to suit traveling a bit more. The royal emblem he had removed from it, so many just believe he was at least an officer in the Bari military. Or that he had killed the previous owner of the armor and took it for himself.

Personality: Unlike his appearance, Marik likes to think that he isn't really much of anything like his father, at least in terms of his personality. How true that may be really has yet to be seen, however.

For the most part, Marik is a kind, easy-going guy, just wandering around looking for a good time. See the world, have a bit of an adventure, and win different tournament hosted by lords and ladies. And, maybe even flirt around a bit with those ladies. Of course, their husbands, fathers, or brothers never think too well of that, and he rarely actually does anything. He wants to wait to find that special someone before really doing anything.

Like Pern, however, he does have a calculating mind, and is actually smarter than most seem to want to give him credit for. Put in in command in a battle, and he actually could be a tactician to be reckoned with. And unfortunately, he also has his father's temper and anger issues. While it takes a considerable amount to set him off, when he hits that edge...Well, things will go very bad very quickly.

History: Mazrin is the result of a union between Pern and a serving maid in his father's castle, about a year before the prince was set to marry Bels Okane. A pretty young girl by the name of Malina, she was a supremely loyal servant to the royal family. That added in with the charm Pern had at his disposal to get what he wanted, and she had been putty in his hands. Besides, what woman wouldn;t want to jump at the chance to sleep with the crown prince of the empire anyway?

Of course, Malina was smart. She realized that, although she was Pern's bed warmer for a while, that wouldn't last. And she would never be permitted to talk about what had happened or stay close to Pern because of the upcoming marriage. Which was no problem for her. She may have had feelings for the prince, but his image and the family's image came first, and when her time came to attend her regular duties again, she did so without complaint or attempts to get Pern to change his mind. The relationship was broken off three months before Pern married Bels, and Marik was born six months after that marriage. The one time they weren't careful...

Malina did everything she could to keep her pregnancy secret, not even letting Pern know what had happened. And once again, it was for worry about his image. The thought that she stood a chance at being killed to keep things quiet never crossed her mind. When it got close to the time she was having a hard time hiding her growing belly, she left the palace, claiming that she had to go home to care for a dying sister. When she returned a few months after Marik was born, a few asked questions, but she simply said that it was her sister's son. As his only living family, she had to care for him.

As he grew up, it was assumed that he would simply become another servant at the castle. However, young Marik soon caught the eye of the castle's Master of the Guard. He was growing just a bit faster than any of the other boys. He was taller than most even at a young age, stronger, faster both physically and mentally...The seasoned soldier saw a prime warrior in the boy. After some work, he eventually managed to convince Malina to allow the boy to be recruited into the palace guard.

Because he was young, he started as a simply squire, and followed different knights and soldiers around, listening and observing them, until he was old enough to begin his own training. He started training young, only twelve at the time, with a group of other boys, mostly sons of minor nobles, to be in the elite royal guard for the royal family. Of course, it couldn't really be called a family, but, oh well.

As he grew older, he excelled in his training, and was a natural with the sword and lance. Also, some started to notice how similar he looked to the Emperor. An old, senile servant who had been around when Pern had been younger even called Marik by the Emperor's name and title until he died. Some were suspicious, but no one was brave enough to say anything about it. Whether or not Pern ever learned of the boy, well...Like stated, no one was brave enough to ask the Emperor about it.

But as he grew, and continued to be a spitting image of Pern, whispers started floating through the castle. Marik did his best to ignore them, and all he wished to do was serve the empire, but things steadily started to get worse and worse...Especially when one day he was attacked by a very poorly informed assassin on the training field, who believed he was Pern's son. But it was on his graduation day, the day that he would be admitted into the royal guard, things finally became too much.

It was after the knighting ceremony, where Pern himself gave the recruits their unique swords and rings signaling their elite status. While other knights and recruits, and even servants, had been whispering for a while that his mother had slept with Pern as a prince, no one had done much, except get a broken nose or loose some teeth if they mentioned anything bad about his mother when he was in ear shot. But she had gained a reputation of being a whore, and some drunken newly made guardsmen, decided that if she had been good enough for a prince, she'd be great for the three of them. After all, time had been kind to her, as she was still a rather attractive woman.

Needless to say, those men were soon killed by Marik, when he caught them in the act of forcing themselves onto his mother. Because of the jumbled mess that the who situation became, it came to the attention of the emperor himself, and Malina, fearing for her son, forced him to flee the castle. She didn't wish to see him killed if Pern so chose to do that. After all, things by now were pretty undeniable...Marik was the Emperor's sons.

What happened after that, Marik never learned. Had Pern done something to his mother? Was he being hunted by the Emperor? What was going on? No search parties or bounty hunter, or assassins, ever came for him, though.

Marik, using his skills he had learned in his training, set off. He knew staying in Bari was foolish, so he started to travel around. It soon became apparent to him, though, just what type of man Pern was...Seeing how commoners were treated, how soldiers would kill peasants as if they were nothing, just for being unable to pay taxes...How had he ever wanted to protect that man?

To pay for his travels he started to enter different games and tournaments hosted my nobles of all types. Typically, he wins at least the sword fighting tournament, and occasionally a jousting match. Lately, he's made his way into Corrisanth, making a bit of a name for himself for his skills at these tournaments.
