Nothing controversial, just information. A rarity for this board. https://www.newyorker.com/news/letter-from-the-uk/another-exhausting-agonizing-week-of-brexit |

When the 13 colonies negotiated our constitution it took quite a bit of time and diplomacy to work everything out. It's impossible to read articles that don't have a bit of bias or drama, that is how the news is these days. Despite a hurricane of propaganda from those who were in power to keep Great Britain in the EU, the people voted by majority to leave. The lobbyist appear to still be doing their deeds but again, the people voted to leave. The current government will either get it done or won't and leave the task to the next. Eventually this will all be worked out. |

Just agreeing with you, Thump. Now we only need another 35 million or so UK voters to agree on how to do it, and it's a done deal |

No, it's not - the problem is, there are several forms Brexit could take, and variations of each. And all of the versions have firm supporters. About 20% want a Hard Exit - dump the EU, and break all ties. About 30% want a Soft Exit - break off the political ties, but set up a customs union, where goods move freely, and people almost so. About 15% want a different sort of Soft Exit, picking and choosing what to keep and what to throw away on an individual item basis. And 35 % want No Exit at All. And there are problems with each - A Hard Exit would cause economic chaos and Scotland voting on independence, And years of renegotiating (begging for?) economic deals around the world A Soft Exit would leave Northern Ireland, with an open border with Ireland, with the possibility of a civil war, and no way to police who crosses the in/out of Britain The "Pick and Choose" option? Who gets to Pick and Choose? And why would the EU agree to splitting up its economy like that? And No Exit? That would enrage the other 65% who want an Exit, and cause a Constitutional Crisis, probably forcing the Conservative government to resign and the Queen to call a snap election, which, since the people are still divided, would get nowhere except to start the whole process all over again, and destroy whatever good feelings are left in the Economic Union. There are no good answers. It's a total mess Edited by Brewster, Jun 17 2018, 09:30 AM.

About that, plus or minus a few percent. But since they can't agree about Brexit is, it means little. The hard fact of the matter is, regardless of what Theresa May negotiates for Brexit, at least 70% of the population will be against it, and probably much more than thatr.
