The problem with government dependency in two sentences: "Cutler believes that if the government isn't going to provide a solution to the problem any time soon, then residents shouldn't have to pay for bottled water. "I think in a situation like this where it's not our choice whether we go purchase the water — we really kind of have to — I don't think we should have to pay for it." When the first ferry left they should have boarded it for the mainland and fresh water. |

Since the people have always paid for their water, and now the company isn't supplying it because they had not upgraded to allow for increasing extreme weather in spite of the fact that scientists have been forecasting it for at least a decade, shouldn't that company have to cover the costs for their lack of foresight? Where does "government dependency" come into it? It's time to give this scenario more thought, as versions of this are going to affect every city and town in the entire world. Where are you planning on going when facilities are damaged in your area, say from wildfires, beetles, or droughts? Will that make you a "government dependent"? |

Well I care, we are having a normal winter here. We have our ups and downs, just like we have had for since 1918 and before. |

Nahh, this is the America-haters forum right here, and people like you, who truly hate what you country has become, won't stop talking to me, even if you have nothing constructive to say, and we're talking about Newfoundland in any case.. Pat, the utilities on the island are run primarily by Fortis, one of the 15 biggest private utility corporations in North America. There is a small, confusing input in how to run the place by the Newfoundland gov't. |
