Tulsa engineer sees his wastewater purification process revived "Finally" is probably the word most apt to describe his four-decade journey toward seeing a passion project realized, Don Childress said. "Finally, we're doing it," Childress said. "I've been in the engineering field for so long that when you get something done, you take a deep breath and say, 'Well, what's next?' But this one — I have grown with it. I have dreamed with it." The project is one that the local mechanical and process engineer started working on back in the 1970s. Although Childress received a patent in 1976 for the method he developed to purify and extract minerals from the saltwater produced by oil and gas drilling, back then the commercialization of the idea never went anywhere. LINK Now, with oil and gas wastewater in the headlines in a major way and the skyrocketing of the value of elements like lithium, the 77-year-old Don Childress could finally be seeing his dream hit the market. Trust the free market to come up with solutions. Do not trust the government which did not come up with this, to come up with good solutions. |

Unlike government, private equity will not get involved in a project unless it makes sense, has a market and has the ability to give a greater return than the cost. |
