Global warming if it is really true and not hogwash, is not an extinction event. Matter of fact it would have avantagious effects on the planet. The GW alarmists would better serve humanity by working towards developing a meteorite orbit changing system. We will be struck by a life extinguishing meteror. Not a matter if but when. |

How did you come to the conclusion it's not an extinction event? It very much is, and far more likely (almost certain, if we don't do something soon) in the next 100 years or so than a Dinosaur-extinction sized meteor. Actually, by that standard, Climate Extinction is more likely by a factor of a million to one, or even more. On Edit: Here's the likelihood of a huge Meteor Strike...

Convince me that a life extinguishing sized meteor will not hit our earth in the next 200 years. |

That's silly, Thump. I just showed you the graph - it's just odds - astronomers have a good idea of what's out there, especially chunks big enough to do that much damage. But can anyone say for certainty when the next big one will hit? Of course not. It's just like rolling s pair of dice - there's only on chance in 36 that you'll roll double sixes. What are the chances of rolling 4 straight double sixes? Once in 1,679,616. (36x36x36x36) So is it impossible to roll four straight double sixes? No. It might happen with the next four rolls you make, but it's not the way I'd bet. So it's possible that we'll get hit some time in the next 200 years, but with the odds being 1,000,000 to one that we won't, it's not the way I'd bet. But the science of Climate paints a very different picture - if we sit on our asses much longer, we'll reach a tipping point, and the Climate will spiral out of control. All bets are off - it's a virtual certainty that Disaster WILL happen. The only uncertainty is exactly when, and it's highly unlikely that we have 100 years - in fact, there are signs we've nearly reached that point already. Edited by Brewster, Dec 23 2016, 04:05 AM.

I went to a solar energy talk this morning and here is a couple of points made. 1. Those over the bathroom vanity, 8 bulb light fixtures here in Nevada---if incandescent 60 Watt bulbs are used, will cost $450 a year if left on most of the day a smany people do. They leave the bathroom without turning the lights off. 2. The refrigerator is no longer your main power drain, your TV is. Even if turned off the TV drains power do to a feature that keeps the insides ready to instantly turn on when you hit the on switch. Unplug the TV when not in use or use a power strip and switch it off. 3. Natural gas is the most effcicient means of heating water and cookibng with plus the cheapest. 4. Those LED bulbs are now down to $1 a piece and instead of using 60 - 100 watts, use 2-6 watts. To put this in perspective, 10 100 watt bulbs is 1 kilowatt. Your power bill generally lists the KW's you use each month, then multiplies that by the KW rate charged by your utility. Do the math, 10 X 100 watts (bulb) = 1 KW. per hour. If the bulbs are on 12 hours, then they used 12 KW hours that day. 365 days in a year X 12 KW = 4,380 KW. If your power company charges 15 cents per KW this = $657 per year. Now when the grand kid leaves on the lights, or your kids start giving them a bill broken down like this. The same is true for curling irons and so forth.5. Panel prices have dropped and we now have 300 Watt panels available. You can check with your Provence or state to see if there is a rebate or tax offset. Germany has 60% of the homes on solar power. |

Pat, do you believe there are enough people changing their way of living to be of any significant impact on the world's environment? How many more centuries do you think this will lengthen the ability to exist on this planet? I am not changing the way I do anything nor do I know anyone that is.

Berton, No, it doesn't show "how the measured data has been changed to try to match the equations." It merely makes the claim that the data has been changed. Your writer has given little in the form of underlying support for his comments. So, I'll follow suit. He asks a question about Milankovitch Cycles and suggests that he got no answer. I'll give one. No, Milankovitch Cycles don't support the notion that the current warming is totally natural. They can start to begin and end an ice age only when other conditions fall into place simultaneously. That isn't happening currently. Indeed we should be in a cooling period and likely could be if it weren't for the increase in green house gasses in the atmosphere. He also seems to favour those who focus on the Lower tropospheric Temperature as measured by satellite. These satellite measurements are known to suffer from data error. Surface temperature measurements and even weather balloon Lower tropospheric Temperature measurements follow predicted warming trends. |
