Tactical flashlights; Just another toy?

I recently purchased one of those tactical flashlights being promoted on TV.

I thought that as I am not allowed a loaded handgun in my home, an extra bright flashlight might make a good bedside companion.

The one that I have cost twenty five bucks at a flea market in Indiana.

It certainly is bright.

Anyone have or considering purchasing one?

I have wondered if they are a scam.

SD,
I have a couple of the flashlight like yours, their nice in some situations. Max spread of the beam on high power pointed at the ceiling will give workable light in a large room. The lights are tough and take lots of abuse while still working.

The strobe is a joke, as is the "SOS" function.

SD,
Best general use flashlight is the 3 D-cell MagLight with the LED bulb. Use three
D-cells and it has a nice heft to it.

There are numerous cheap windup, shakeup, or squeeze led lights that always work, never run down batteries. I have a nice small (3x2x3/4) squeeze light that I bought several of to put places light the glove box.

So I shouldn't trade my gun in for a flashlight?

I think a good heavy weight flashlight would be better and more useful than a cap gun.

Not unless you want to kill someone the Canadian way, with kindness and eh them to death.

I really don't get it, are you suppose to point the flashlight at them and yell boom boom or what? How does a flashlight deter someone from assaulting you?
