After a lot of research finally bought an electric tonight, 2016 Ford Fusion Energi SE Luxury edition. Ford has a factory lease discount on the base SE model with a 700A equipment group going until 7/5/16 if you can find a one which I couldn’t, $3379 down & $159 for 36 months with 31,500 miles @ .20 cents over. It took some negotiating but we got there with all the bells and whistles I really didn’t want even offering to buy the lease out upfront to save money being it was the SE that qualified for the offer. First impression driving home is it’s really cool! The touch screen is wild and the seats and leg room are comfortable for long trips. Using both gas and electric the MPG is rated at 88 and already have a dedicated 20amp circuit next to the garage to plug into for overnight trickle charging. Excited about it and feel I got a good deal basically renting it for 11k for 3 years testing the technology then giving it back. The only downside so far is getting used to how low it sits getting in and out driving a F350 for the last 10 years and my wife said the same driving a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder. |

Good on ya, Don! I hope it works out for you - I'm having much the same problem with my wife - she wants to sit UP! It's odd - I couldn't care less. Maybe it's because I'm so tall that being up means nothing to me Edited by Brewster, Jun 23 2016, 11:41 AM.

A conservative on this board buys the first electric car. How ironic. |

I find it strange how Ford calculates mpg. From what I read, the Ford Fusion has a 20 mi range on electric.... after 20mi, the Ford relies on a small 4cyl gasoline engine rated at 38mpg...... this is barely equivalent to my E320 3 liter turbo diesel at 37mpg....What's wrong with my understanding? |

I'm not sure which part is causing the problem, Jack... A diesel SHOULD get better mileage than a Gas engine - and the two cars are similar in size. Normally your 3 liter might not do quite as well as the 2 Litre gas, especially with the turbo, but that hybrid gas engine also has to push around all the extra electrics and bigger batteries that a plug-in carries. The big gain for the Fusion is running gas free for 20 miles - I don't consider that really adequate - it's quite a bit less than half the new Volt's 52 mile range, but if your main driving is little commutes to the grocery store, it should work well. Don, Don't know if you have much of a hurricane threat, if you do, I've seen a couple of cool kits that you can add to the car, making it a super electricity source in an emergency.

Appreciate it guys definitely enjoying this thing and it will be a learning curve to understand everything. Especially since they gave me a manual for a gas only Fusion that doesn’t mention anything about the electrical system, apparently they can’t find the right one and have to order it… my luck but did download it online to read for now. It has three driving modes, Auto EV (decides what it needs based on load between gas engine and battery), EV Now (electric only) and EV Later (electric turned off). Here’s a link to the manual to read about if interested and the driving modes start on page 149. http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/Catalog/owner_information/2016-Fusion-Hybrid-Energi-Owners-Manual-version-1_om_EN-US_03_2015.pdf I’ll share more as I learn this thing. At the end of a drive it gives a summery and on a 4.5 mile drive today in Auto EV mode the summery said it was battery only power for 2.8 of the miles. Also while in Auto EV mode the status screen is constantly changing between “hybrid drive”, “charging HV battery” and “electric drive” depending on whether you’re accelerating, cruising or sitting at a light. |

Corky, Been through a few of hurricanes here losing power with a serious generator so have that covered but that is cool and will definitely read about it! One of the kids found a standard 120v receptacle in the back seat today I haven’t read about yet but has to be an inverter plug. |

Don, Check the fuel use against the big genset, not sure which would be more efficient. I like the car, just want one that uses CNG for fuel, two years off I hear.
