Right, but just how are you going to get that? Without that it is just another meaningless talking point.

That and guns are going to take people in the street, lots of them, for a long time.

When enough people are POed enough to do that you will get action. Until then forget it!

That may be but their government is not set up like ours and the American people have shown this regrettable tendency not to get involved until very late in the game.

Here in America we tend to look upon politics as inherently dirty, that our vote means nothing since all politicians are the same. You hear that on this board all the time. Politicians love this and foster that impression although always referring to the "other" and our poor ignorant voter feels that all those other congress men are crooks but HIS is honest. This same sentiment prevails all the way down to the school disrtrict.

And we have bought it. In any given election we are lucky if half the people vote. Mid terms bring out far less than that. Meanwhile those who have "risen above it all" get screwed. They seem to enjoy it and our country is governed, at best, by about 25% of the electorate. Let freedom ring!!!!!!
,
Meanwhile the faithfull look for a new savior every four years with never a clue as to who the hell is representing them in congress, never realizing that the congress is where the action is.

Our Supreme Court, the most political of the three branches, has determined that money is speech. A ridiculous claim if there ever was one. Our politicians love it, making only minor noises here and there and we, as a people, seem to revere the court's decision so much that even though almost 90% of the people are against it it remains the "law of the land".

Let's face it, our system is dysfunctional. It is set up for one branch to thwart the other whereas Canada is set up for majority rule and responsibiity for that rule. Our standard operating procedure here is for one party to obstruct the other and then run on the notion that "nothing gets done". How stupid is that?
