Gold Certificates?; I thought the purpose was to have tangible assets, not paper.

A person I know who feels electing Hillary will cause a national collapse is so proud of his gold holdings, to me it seems like just another hand full of paper.

I thought goldbugs had gold to be outside the system with their wealth.

Any gold bug will happily exchange his precious metal for dollars
if your offer is high enough.

I would have a much greater fear of a collapse
under Trump than I would under Hillary.

Unless of course, pissing off everyone, every where
is the secret to prosperity!

So, are Gold Certificates the same as real metallic gold or not. I see the certificates as just another part of the paper trading game.

Originally, Paper Money was based on Gold.

We've just gone full circle.

I agree cork. I get a charge out of folks that think there is metal sitting in a vault with their name on it.

Thumper,
This guy fancies himself a survivalist who will "live through anything". He thinks that his gold is there just waiting to be picked up and used to buy what he needs from the "dumb smucks" who will have nothing of value.

Brew,
The man has spent his life dealing in symbolic values, he can't even understand that the symbolism might not be honored. He completely lost control when I said there are times and places when a can of beans would be worth more than his gold, even if it was real.
