I don't think politically the Saudi's can allow the "battle of Mosul" to occur, between ISIL"S propaganda machine and Shiaa gloating it would cause the fall of the House of Saud, and they know it.

We need to think now about how we want to handle this, before the rhetoric and politics get kicked up.

I've heard the same estimate, bad design and even worse maintenance. All in all, not a good time to be in Mosul.

I don't understand why they aren't trying to fix it. ? I guess ISIS destroyed the machines, etc but it can surely be fixed.

There are two main problems, a BAD base and damaged gates that control water level. I've seen a couple of good articles on the problems.
