Stoned,
Hearts and minds failed miserably, or don't you remember? Best you can hope for is fear and loathing that will keep the violence quelled.

:smoker:
What we are now reaping is the combined effects of 100 years of fear and loathing. Do you honestly think things would be as they are had we stayed out of the middle east in general and Iraq in particular?

Hell we in the US are still fighting our own civil war. Do you really think you can bomb anyone, especially fanatics, into submission? The next time will be the first.

Stoned,
I didn't suggest "bombing them into submission", just making their civilian supporters see it to their own self interest to remove them. Killing the civilians would serve no purpose and just make more enemies. We are not using our best strategy, think due to some Saudi interference`under the guise of humanitarian needs. ISIS serves the needs of the Saudi's.

You did not answer my question. Do you think we would be in this position had we stayed out of Iraq?

Stoned,
I most definitely think we would have been better off if we had not invaded Iraq! We removed the buffer that kept a religious war on a much lower burner, but people let money and ideology blind them to the reality that existed. God save me from good people doing good deeds!

So why don't we quit while we are only a world or two behind?

Those were not good people and good deeds had nuthin to do with it .

Stoned,
What we can do in the current political environment and what we should do are far different.

I guess I need to start marking sarcasm when I post it, sorry 'bout that!

Let's see now. These clowns blow up unsuspecting innocents and we sit here and debate executing them? Ridiculous. Kill them.

Yep, start an all out war to kill them and see how many recruits they get.

In a war you have to accept surrender and that gives you prisoners, do you really want ISIL prisoners. Do you really want ISIL prisoners?

Them being prisoners is better than them trying to kill us.
