Several years ago now, I pointed out that the US West and SouthWest was going though an extended drought, and predicted that it would continue, getting worse if anything. A few claimed that I had said it would get steadily worse, and laughed when it moved away from their area. I told them that it may have left them temporarily, but it was far from over. I predicted it would get better, then worse again, moving about and becoming more dangerous over time... This Chart tells the tale... ![]() The Whole Story... |

I had lunch two weeks ago with a friend from Oroville, Ca. He told me the winter storms filled up the reservoir. In Nevada and Washington there has been record rain and I heard the same for most of California. |

As I said, in any single area, it seems to come and go. But it's mostly just moving about. Actually there IS a little less drought this year, due to El Nino, but as that weakens, the Drought will be back with a vengeance. BTW, it can rain 5 days a week, and still have an increase in Drought - it depends upon how much runs off, and how much evaporates when it's hot. You have Drought conditions any time you're losing more water than you're receiving. Edited by Brewster, Mar 24 2016, 01:07 AM.

There is a condition where it rains, but evaporates before hitting the ground. I can't recall the term. The rain I experienced this year hit the ground. |

Have you ever wondered why Brewster is only showing a part of the US? Is it because if he showed the entire US it would make his pronouncements look silly? |

The term is Virga - very common in the interior of BC and in southern Alberta, among other places. Kinda fun to watch. But whether it hits or not makes no difference in a Drought - as I said, it's a simple subtraction problem. Edited by Brewster, Mar 24 2016, 05:02 AM.

Now there is a statement, it makes no difference if the moisture hits or not. LMAO |

The severity of droughts come and go. It was much worse back when Brewster told us it would do nothing but get worse over time. |

I'm betting Brew checks the weather app about twenty times a day hoping to see a no rain forecast. lol |
