Pat, you really do make me laugh with your judgement of public schools. How involved were or are you in your kids and grandkids lives today, does this forum take time from that? If the answer is yes you should reevaluate what’s important... My mom and in laws are active in ours with my FIL still running the Cub Scout program their church sponsored when my nephew was young and he’s 22 today and there’s no way to really estimate the number of lives he’s improved. Between our work my wife was VP of our elementary school PTA for two years with one still there for two more seasons and this year she’s on the board for our high school crew (rowing) team that also supports middle school kids interested and this seasons middle school turnout was big with 60 kids still sticking with it. Our DD18 in her senior year is trying to decide what colleges to take seriously right now and my DD11 had her first race this weekend and while the days are long (very long) the effort is worth it and it looks like I’m taking over the hospitality side of the races for our team this season. My daughter’s "public school boyfriend" received a personal invitation from a rowing coach at Harvard to apply. Share some pictures of this supreme world you live in so the rest of us can see what it’s like. If you’re not scared of course… come on people, share with personal pictures what’s important to you. It’s really not rocket science to do it. Edit.. a dumb construction worker realized he spelt "Harvard" wrong... Edited by donsm60, Nov 2 2015, 02:46 PM.

How about we just totally eliminate public education? Let the parents deal with the education of their children either by sending them to the private/parochial schools or home schooling them. Lets dump all those kids on the elite schools and see how well they do with them. Or, maybe a another solution is to get the federal government out of education and put it totally into the hands of the states. Perhaps those that bitch the most about the state of the schools should get involved with their local schools and run for school board or volunteering in their local schools and start doing something about righting the ship. It is so much easier bitching than actually doing something, eh? |

It was my opinion of the videos and my experience in schools. |

There are good public schools and there are bad public schools. Unfortunately people who can not or do not want to move out of districts which are allowing bad schools to exist are the ones who are getting the shaft. Here in my area we have both kinds. |

Of course. But the naysayers always seem to want to condemn the system instead of the individual schools. Nor do they want to get involved to make things better. Eliminate the public education system and listen to the parents and naysayers squeal. |

I think you should watch "Blackboard Jungle" made in 1955. (of course in that case the thugs were mainly white) |

You are extremely naive. There is an epidemic of violence and stupidity within the student populations. Let me guess, your solution is to toss more funding. |
