Today the president's public plea to Russia to withdraw Russian troops from the Ukraine border sounds like the strategy that the west is taking. Maybe some sanctions will put pressure on Russian citizens to demand a withdrawal. A weak strategy is one that allows Russia to dig in deeper and assume more control over the area. And this is a weak strategy but maybe the only one the G7 and NATO are willing to pursue. |

What can they do except put NATO troops i to Ukraine. If Ukraine asks for that, it might not be a bad idea. |

Uhhh, because some of us might have other ideas we would like to bring forth? Was there an assumption made that what one member projects as the truth is the truth? I think there are any number of steps that could be taken outside those brought up at this point.

Then why are you acting like it has not been discussed before and that nothing else could be done. |

I am not, maybe a better question is what should he do about eastern Ukraine? I already made a suggestion about that, but it is not a sole US decision, nor should it be. We do know Putin called Obama yesterday. As for Crimea, what can be done about that when most of its population wants to join Russia? Where is the line between territorial integrity and self determination? Still, its a bad precedent. Obama maybe could have been more forceful, but without the support of the EU to be so, he has his hands tied. |
