The Office of Congressional Ethics is expected Monday to recommend the House Ethics Committee review Oklahoma Second District Congressman(R) Markwayne Mullin's continued involvement in his family's plumbing business. Mullin denies he has done anything wrong and says he will fight any attempt to make him divest himself of the seven companies that make up Mullin Plumbing. House members are limited to about $27,000 a year in earned outside income. Investments, which are classified as unearned income, do not count against the total. At issue in Mullin's case is more than $600,000 the OCE said was disbursed to him in 2013 by the various Mullin companies and his involvement in one of the companies that has been a subcontractor at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City. The OCE says the $600,000 should be counted as earned income because Mullin appears in commercials for the company and has a home-improvement radio program that promotes Mullin Plumbing. Well lets see if the liberals want to talk about this case or make the thread about me. Edited by Berton, Mar 24 2014, 10:20 PM.

I don't think the case is in any way unique Berton. Most members of congress are extremely wealthy and gain even more wealth as a result of connections and pandering their power. I don't know if it is or is not, but I would bet that the Tinker Airforce base situation is in some way linked to this guys congressional roots. The former speaker of the house Tom Foley from up here, had a chain of tire stores. And I can remember him in ads. I don't recall anybody going after his wealth. So what are we to do? Public service can now be interpreted as the ongoing pursuit of serving one's bank account that grows as the political influence grows. Do we force by law that candidates cast off all worldly wealth and don sack cloth attire? Even the bishops of the church who swear an oath of poverty, are living in palaces and have much wealth. |

Why subject yourself to the dirtiness of politics if it is not for growing personal wealth? Mr Smith goes to Washington was all bull hunk. |

After looking at the available information, there isn't enough unbiased reporting to make any judgment yet. The Ethics committee has yet to release it's report and you seem to be a bit premature in looking for opinions. At this point the man has to be presumed Innocent.

More about a conflict of interest charge than a corruption charge. |
