At what point will you say no
for yourself or close family members?
I think that point is reached when there are no more assets to throw at the problem. Each individual and family has their own point.
at what point are there no more assets? When you are penniless after helping a family member or after ?
I think it varies, I know of plenty of spouses who dumped a spouse when the medical issues became too expensive and demanding. Nothing like a good case of cancer, dementia, or heart disease to bring the best out in a spouse.
Wow that's love! When a past gf got ill and did not look like she would make it, everyone expected that I should leave her. Not me, when tough times come I do not run

But we were told if we only followed the Canadian system of one payer there would be no backup at the ER because everyone would go to their own doctor. Another lie apparently.

Huh, where to you figure that logic? Nearly everyone here goes to their own doctor. and they should
unless it is an emergency. You see people in ER who are too lazy to make an appointment. ERs should be just what their name implies. We have an extensive network of drop in clinics for those who do not keep a family doctor. You can go to any one of those, most of which are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and wait no longer than an hour to see a doctor. They will send you to an ER if that is where you should be.

You said people are using the ER rather than go to a doctor when there is in fact not an emergency. That is happening here in the US and we were told that would end if we only had one payer like Canada has. Apparently that was a lie according to what you have put in now, two posts. People are still using the ER even though it is not an emergency in Canada. You make it sound even worse because of your statement about the drop in clinics. It is all ONE BIG LIE which is what liberals live by.

So we were told a lie. By the way, Canadians joined in telling the lie.

Most of the deadbeats down here that have historically used the emergency room for health insurance followed the same path Teleco says Canadians do. It is no sweat off their brow for walking in with a sniffle, hell, they weren't paying for it.

Yep, and they call 911 to get a free ride to the ER in an ambulance.

Well first of all I would like to see a link to that statement, I certainly can't find it, so maybe you can help me out. And which Canadians joined in telling this "lie"? However there are always those who will abuse the system.
