I came across this in an introduction in a book I am just starting. I thought it might stimulate some discussion.

quote: "In the letter, he states: "The word god is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this." In the HBO show hosted by Bill Mauer, the host spent a segment lambasting the new film Noah and the fact 60% of Americans believe there really was an ark. Paraphrased. We have a guy Noah, purported to have lived 900 years. At the youthful (sic) age of 500, he sires three sons. At 600, and with his three 100 year old sons, he embarked on building an ark. Why? Because a god had become so pissed off at his creation man, that he decided to use Noah as an instrument of 'mankindcide' ( I just made that term up). The killing of every man, woman, elderly child and new born. And then this god re-populated the planet with the same type of people who he had wiped out and I guess expected a different outcome. Now back to Noah, he and his sons in a matter of hours, loaded millions of species onto this ark, these millions of species just happened to be grazing within about a 5 mile radius of the ark and therefore must have been indigenous to the locale. And this is what 60% of Americans believe. I think Einstein, a free thinker and deep thinker at that, figured out what many are now figuring out. That on analysis, and upon reasoning, the bible of Christianity is a fairy-tale. The same illogical stories and beliefs are apparent in other religions as well. My conclusion is that a combination of intelligence and the inability to know with certainty what happens after mortal death, led mankind from it's earliest evolution to create religion and myths. Idols and gods. A structure to grasp on to as they lived each day until they finally faced the deathbed. In science, studies in physics and math seem to indicate that you cannot destroy stuff, but rather it takes on another form. Matter can be transformed into energy, energy into matter. There is a change but never a destruction. Anyway, that's what I have gathered. So I think Einstein probably figured that the mystery of life and death and transformation was another question with a logical scientific explanation. My own belief is that the mind is separate from the body and the intelligence and personality of each person has the ability to create realities and existences within the overall ongoing expansion and contraction of various dimensions. In other words, this is just but one experience among an infinite number of experiences/lives. Maybe Einstein had a similar view. |

My question is about your statement about a bible you apparently have knowledge of. Does it say that in this bible you have knowledge of? |

I was refering to this post by Jack of 32. Apparently, according to his bible, there should be no penalty for killing an innocent seventeen year old kid! |
