In Pennsylvania, the electric bill for 1 Kwh has gone up 98% (February's bill over Decembers bill). Is it the same across the country? |

Since most of our power is from hydro and we are serviced by a non profit PUD we still pay 6.50 cents per kilowatt. Our home is 2500 sq feet and is all electric (well, septic, heat plus about a 1/2 mile of hot wire fencing). Our last month bill was $66. We do have a wood stove and an on demand instant hot water system (propane). |

Our bill is not high either. Hydro electric power here too. You might try energy miser appliances and led lights Ban. More home insulation and new windows. |

Georgia power is still charging us about 5 cents per KwH in the winter and around 8 cents in the summer. That doesn't include all the junk fees. |

Pennsylvania is one of the states that deregulated public electricity. Penelec has always been our source in the past. We still pay Penelec, but our provider has become Pennsylvania Gas and Electric (PAGE) and there have been many complaints about them and one other provider that has increased rates considerably. Our Kwh usage hasn't changed, our "carrier" has doubled the rate per Kwh in just two months. My "contract" with PAGE can be discontinued with a 30 day notice. I'll be looking for a new provider. Our Penelec rate was a flat rate, winter or summer, at $.13 Kwh. PAGE is a variable rate and last month was $.24 Kwh. Edited by Banandangees, Mar 16 2014, 09:22 AM.

No huge jumps here month to month, but that is probably because the utility has to get rate increase approvals from the Michigan Public Service Commission. I pay around $0.014/kwhr in the winter and $0.015/kwhr in summer. The rate goes up in steps, the more you use, the higher the rate. I think it is to encourage conservation. My house was built with electric baseboard heat. And, met the extra insulation requirements required. But, I would hate to see what it would cost me to heat all electric these days. Around 5 years ago I plumbed the whole house for hot water heat with baseboard radiator units and multiple zones with each having their own thermostat and zone pumps. I installed an outdoor wood burner/boiler to heat the water. It does a good job and also heats my domestic hot water. For the area I'm heating my annual wood cost is about one months electric bill under the old system. The downside is going out a couple of times in 24 hours to throw some wood in. And, all the hassle with stacking and covering the wood. I buy most of it already cut and split. Lots of healthy young fellows wanting to make an extra buck selling it. I've put all CF bulbs throughout the house, have replaced all the appliances with the energy star rated ones. And, still my bill runs $130-$140 a month. And, over $200 when running AC during hot summer months. It seems to me, that the more things I do to use less gets canceled out by the steady upward climb of rates. I've called and griped, but their standard answer is government mandated green energy percentages. Who knows? You guys getting that cheap hydro power are lucky. Around here we used to have lots of hydro facilities, but they have been just phased out. Probably during the era of cheap imported oil. Some of the dams are still left their for recreational purposes and others have been removed. North of here they have some pretty impressive windmills, but it seems most of them are idle whenever I pass them heading for my trips to norther Michigan. https://www.consumersenergy.com/content.aspx?id=1985 |

Our electric bill has been fairly steady. I pay about $130 per month. I have it averaged out. However, thanks to Obama my bill will be going up. He is forcing the closing of some coal fired plants which will have to be replaced with gas fired ones and we will have to pay for them. |

Not counting all the other "fees" associated with an electric bill, "Pennsylvania Gas and Electric," (PAGE) our present provider, charged $.0724 per Kwh as of the end of December, which was about what Penelec charged on a regular basis for years. That is the rate PAGE charged the first few months they became provider. PAGE's January charge increased to $.1335 per Kwh and for February another increase to $.1948 per Kwh, an increase per Kwh over December's bill. That's a 169% increase in two months. Needles to say, our electric bills have doubled for similar Kwh used. Complaints Pennsylvania Gas & Electric tops among complaints |

We are pretty fortunate here in central Missouri. Union Electric was bought out by Ameran and the prices have gone up a little. We are paying 8 cents for the first 750 KW and 5 cents after that. We have Hydro, Nuke and coal fired plants. Ban, man I feel for you, your weather has been a bitch. Got cabin fever yet?
