I believe this is the first post on this thread that even mentions English.

Last time this topic was discussed here I believe the point was raised that we don't have an official language. Perhaps we should. I have no problem with people speaking other languages in their day to day lives. But, I really am not thrilled about the steps taken to accommodate them. Our schools shouldn't be required to teach in other languages unless it is a language class. And, I find it annoying that I have to select English when using the ATM.

Apparently the Dutch feel that immigrants should learn their language..... that immigrants should "assimilate" to the host's native language for verbal communication purposes. Is that really asking too much of a nation willing to accept non citizens into their nation with the benefits they have to offer. Many go to other nations for "sanctuary." It only seems appreciative to learn the language of the nation giving one "sanctuary." Or is that considered being mean?

Apparently to the liberal mine it is not being "fair" so it must be being "mean".
