Since the ACA relies totally on private health insurance companies, those opposed to it must be opposed to the private health insurance companies. All of the insurance rate increases about which folks here have complained are rate increases by private health insurance companies. Doesn't that mean that those folks here complaining about the rate increases are opposed to private health insurance companies. Hell, Pat, I might use your name since you have posted favoring a single payer system that does away with private health insurance companies. All the House right wing Tea party right wing ideologues who have voted to eliminate the ACA, have therefore voted to reduce payments toi private health insurance companies. Should I post all of their names? |

I am curious, Neutral. To what "game" are you referring? Is an attempt at serious discussion just a "game" to you? BTW, why the continual personal snide comments? |

Back to the premium increase question. I read today that President Obama went on the Ryan Seacrest show and spent his time trying to brow beat the listeners, which are under 35 demographic, into signing up for the ACA. He then warned them they would be fined if they didn't do so. The article went on to say that he told a crowd of young Hispanics that they should sell their cell phones and discontinue their phone accounts, and then use the money to buy health insurance. I can imagine both sales pitches went over like a lead balloon. The article went on to say that the ACA needs a 35% participation by those 35 and under in order to prevent premium increases. Right now it stands at 22% having signed up but there are no figures as to how many of the 22% have paid a dime towards the policy. I had this thought while reading the article, the ACA is sounding more and more like the Social Security and Medicare pitch, just jump in and pay into both programs and when you are older you will be the beneficiary of the younger workers paying your way. Young Americans are not stupid and if you ask them they will tell you that they don't expect Social Security or Medicare to resemble anything like we have today when they reach a retirement age. Many will say they don't expect to receive anything from the plans. So why would they want to pay full bore for the ACA while young if the same fate awaits them with healthcare premiums later in life? The Ponzi scheme way of doing things here is showing cracks in the foundation. Good luck getting the younger adults to sign up Mr. President. |

IOW, it they do not sign up with private health insurance companies, they will be fined? Do I understand that correctly? I think I do. Now, why are the Republicans against having folks sign up with private health insurance companies? |

I don't know why that would be the case if it is. I think the ACA is beginning to resemble a disaster and that congress needs to call a special session and start over again. It is not too late now, but son could be, to end the ruse and keep the system from imploding. And I think Americans need to accept reality that health insurance and the industry like utilities need to be highly regulated, and brought under one roof with a single payer plan that works in America. Either 50 distinct plans that must follow set guidelines such as Canada does or something similar that takes into account regional differences in populations and demographics. WE absolutely cannot afford to allow this vitally important segment of society to bankrupt us all and break the country financially. A boat can only hold so much water before capsizing and sinking, we we are near that point. Some things are better managed as a whole by the government, utilities, transportation, defense and healthcare among them. |

"Since the ACA relies totally on private health insurance companies, those opposed to it must be opposed to the private health insurance companies." Please explain the logic which brought you to that erroneous conclusion. |
