Obama Surgeon General Pick Anti-2nd Amendment Radical

The administration's choice to be the nation's doctor in chief views gun ownership as a public health issue and not a constitutional right, and wants doctors to query patients about guns in their homes.

Cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal's champion, Debo Adegbile, President Obama's defeated pick to be assistant attorney general for the civil rights division at the Department of Justice, is not the only radical on President Obama's wish list.

That list includes gun-grabbing advocate Dr. Vivek Hallegere Murthy, Obama's nominee to be U.S. Surgeon General.....

Now that is a novel way of rescinding our 2ed Amendment rights.

More right wing garbage.

He is a member of Doctors For America, who support the ACA. The rabid anti-2nd statement is more nonsense form loonyland.

Our MissionDoctors for America

Doctors for America is a national movement of physicians and medical students working together to improve the health of the nation and to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, high quality health care.

Our Vision and Approach

We envision a fair, effective and affordable health care system — one fundamentally transformed and guided by the core values of doctors and our patients.

We recognize that doctors are critical to rebuilding our health care system and can be leaders in that process when we utilize our collective voice. As physicians and medical students on the front lines of our health system, we seek to empower one another to make change possible. We amplify our voices — anchored in our experiences with patients — to improve the health care system for everyone.

We are 15,000 physicians and medical students in all 50 states. We practice and study in the largest cities and the smallest towns of America from New York City to Oklahoma City. We work in private practices, academic centers, community health centers, and government-run systems like the Veteran's Affairs and the Indian Health Service. We have many members in primary care and a variety of specialists as well. Some are just embarking on their medical careers and some have retired -- most are somewhere in between. We have members who are deans of medical schools, nationally renowned health policy experts, and those who are purely clinicians. Many of us have never ventured into politics before, but driven by pragmatic idealism, we are bringing the voice of physicians to communities across the country and to the national stage.

What has brought these physicians and medical students together is a desire to improve our health care system. We use the strength of our diverse backgrounds and common vision to build a robust and sustainable national movement.

Core Values and Culture

We are bold and fearless.
We are creative and flexible.
We value everyone. Every voice matters.
We cultivate strong relationships and a family spirit with partners and colleagues.
We are accountable to one another in our individual and collective work.
We are open and honest.
We are passionate and determined.
We grow and learn and help others do the same.
We have fun and celebrate!
We ensure every action meets our highest standard: will it help create a healthier America for everyone?

I just did. Your article is not true. The Dr. supports the ACA. They are using the part of the ACA that says Dr.'s should ask about guns in the home to claim he is a rabid anti-gun proponent. Now that is one hell of a stretch, but a stretch a dedicated Obama hater would be willing to make.

Murthy is the 36-year-old president and co-founder of the anti-gun group Doctors for America, which advocates ObamaCare and gun control laws.

His group, which has been dubbed "Docs vs. Glocks," has pushed Congress to ban "assault" weapons and "high-capacity" magazines.

He also wants to spend more tax dollars on more research to prove that fewer guns mean a lower crime rate, despite the fact that a number of reputable studies prove the opposite.

At a recent hearing before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, Sen. Lamar Alexander inquired about Murthy's social media comments on firearms, such as this tweet before the 2012 presidential election: "Tired of politicians playing politics w/ guns, putting lives at risk b/c they're scared of NRA. Guns are a health care issue."

From their own web site you get the following:

Docs vs. Glocks Campaign (Summer, 2011)

Drs. Mona Mangat and Suzie Prabhakaran and several others spearheaded a petition of 200 physicians against the Florida law banning physicians from asking about gun ownership. They then took that petition to state legislators and convinced State Representative Rick Kriseman to introduce a repeal bill in September, working with Florida CHAIN. Drs. Mangat and Linda Galloway wrote a letter about it that was published in JAMA.

Doc's can ask the question and patients have the right to answer it, or not.

When the police stop someone it's common for them to ask if there are any guns in the car. This does not mean that the police don't support the 2nd amendment.

And, how does being against a law prohibiting physicians from asking about guns in the home make anyone that belongs to that organization a rabid anti-2nd amendment advocate?

Your logic is flawed Berton.

If a physician saw someone like Adam Lanza in his office, I think it would be very appropriate to inquire about his access to firearms.

Your hero isn't even qualified to be the SG. He has never been the head of a hospital. His main job has been to be a activist to support Obama. The organization he heads used to be called Doctors for Obama. Of course in your simplethink world that makes no difference just as long as he supports Obama.
