Diverting? What? By pointing out the obvious? That Obama's only problem with Russia is that it keeps him from playing golf as much as he want to do? Tell me what the date was that President Bush went to the Caribbean during the Georgia incident? Or did he say home and take care of business? |

LOL. Try reading the history, it is almost identical. Russia sending in troops to a former USSR possestion ostensibly to protect ethic Russians. It is about as close to being an identical incident, as is possible, and Obama is playing it exactly the same as Bush did, so far. Were you on another planet at the time? |

Bush never took vacations during an international crisis? You may want to reconsider what you said. Read again: Link |

Straw man alert!!! That is not what I said. Besides, the circumstances are not the same. Georgia started the war when it shelled the South Ossetian capital on Aug. 7 and 8, 2008. In Ukraine, protesters unseated President Viktor Yanukovych, who used police and snipers to kill dozens of protesters. Edited by Berton, Mar 10 2014, 07:45 AM.

It sure is funny to read Berton asking a question and then labeling the answer a "diversion" or a straw man." Edited by colo_crawdad, Mar 10 2014, 08:22 AM.

Colo, You didn't provide the "correct"(desired) reply, you are a poor student for the "Great Teacher"! P.S. the "Great Teacher" is very direct reference to a certain historical person that I hope will be appreciated!

There is not a lot we can do other than object diplomatically. A military standoff with Russia would be too dangerous. That should only be reserved when we under imminent threat. Some limited sanctions might make us feel better, but probably won't deter Putin. Heavy economic sanctions require European buy in, and they are just to tied in with Russia economically particularly in the energy sector. Obama's critics will of course take this opportunity to criticize him, like they always do. But, he is handling it as well as anyone could. |
