Evidence seems to support the figures in the video. Total Viewers OF evening news programs : NBC10,398,000 ABC 8,012,000 CBS 7,129,000 Source How Americans get TV news at home: Local TV news -- 714% Network News - 65% Cable TV News - 38% Source] I am not even interested in what percentage of that 38% watch Fox News. It is a miniscule amount when compared to Network evening news watched on ABC, CBS, and BBC. Edited by colo_crawdad, Mar 3 2014, 02:55 AM.

Is it more important to compare total viewers or to the detail of coverage? I believe the cable news sources dedicated to news far out cover the networks. Deducting the 12 minutes of advertising, the nightly network news is only able to cover several stories in 18 minutes total. The cable networks have panels that discuss events as well as reporters updating stories throughout the day. You are right Colo, there is no comparing the networks to FOX news coverage. |

Pat, To me, the OP wasn't as much about news coverage ass it was about viewers as was Neutral's comments about ratings comparisons. I have seen nothing to dispute the demographics presented in the video. Fox News has a very few viewers, mostly white and the average age approaches 70+. No more can folks claim that Fox News leads in viewership or in their viewers being representative of the American people. |

OK, fewer viewers. Overall network viewers has dropped like a rock. I would have to look at the stats, but with half the population in the early 60's that we have now, my guess is that the three major networks have lost at least half the viewers. People choose other sources, and they grab the news from a variety of places, all of which probably cover the news events better. I can't remember the last time I watched network news and couldn't tell you who their anchors are. I watch sports on networks and that's it. |

Pat, What I read while compiling the states Neutral understandably refused to provide, I noted several articles about a resurgence of Americans watching local and network evening news programs. Edited by colo_crawdad, Mar 3 2014, 08:30 AM.
