This 20 year old man was fortunate enough to have insurance so his share of the $55,000 dollar hospital bill was a mere $11,000. Too many Americans have no health insurance and either they, or the tax payers, would have to pay the entire bill.

While I don't know for sure I am willing to bet that the same procedure in Canada, Germany, or even Australia would not have cost even close to $55,000.

Ken, I looked it up - we don't normally take note of such things, as nobody in Canada would pay anything personally of course, but in Ontario at least, it seems the invoice sent to OHA would be about $330.

Here's a little bit older article. The prices are lower than today, but it shows an interesting comparison:

In Canada, the sick are never turned away.

You Canadians need to stop spending your money foolishly on the welfare of your citizens. Follow our lead, the Military and prisons are much better investments. LOL

A friend of mine was in Germany a few years ago and his wife fell and broke her hip. The surgery, hospital stay, and re-hab while in the hospital (that would be an out patient procedure here) was less that 25% of what it would have cost had it happened here.

From what it looks like at the present, there are going to be many more who had insurance but lost it. Hopefully they won't fall and break their hip.

You say for those who don't have insurance, the tax payer will be paying the full amount??? Can you show that that is a fact? Those on welfare and have hip surgery, the tax payer will pay the full amount??? Is that what you're saying.

You're not going to move to Germany, Canada or Australia are you?

Those that lost their insurance had inferior insurance to begin with. Chances are if they did fall and break their hip the insurance they had either would not have paid for it or would have only paid a small portion. I think that is what he's saying. Several of us on this board have related stories about people without insurance having to pay the entire bill. They don't get the discounts that insurance companies get.

What you posted is buying into the propaganda Obi put out, many lost their policies and had great insurance. I can't imagine even one policy that would not pay if one fell and broke their hip. Ridiculous.

If all you had was a catastrophic policy, it would not cover much of anything. I know, I had one early in my life. Those $40/month plans McDonald's offers are next to worthless.

I don't know what McDonalds plan you speak of but have you even read of the deductibles in Obicare? I know of no $40 per month policies, we are speaking of the present not decades of the past.
