The Vermont state legislature passed legislation that is aimed at coming as close as possible to what has commonly been referred to as a single payer healthcare system and might well be a model for the remaining 49 states to embrace. There are a few bugs that need worked out and full implementation is set for 2017.

Today Michael Moore blasted the Affordable Care Act and labels it as being a pro insurance industry boondoggle. Vermont is not a heavily populated state.. yet as a state with boundaries and sovereignty...can implement a system that might be adoptable nationwide, state by state. Were this the case, then in my humble opinion...the resultant four tier nationwide approach we have would have a shining example of what can be. The four tiers being 1) the non-insured-emergency room poor 2) the privately insured 3) Medicare and Medicaid insured and 4) those supplemented by the Affordable Care Act.

I linked the wikipedia information that explains the legislation and what lays ahead for Vermont as they implement their plan.

I suspect he's part of the large majority who had their own coverage before.

He just wants to ask silly questions - he used up his quota yesterday.

Warning - if you don't answer, or if you give him an answer he doesn't like, (which applies to all sensible answers) he'll just ask the question again - a Do Loop with no logical "While" statement.

Brew,

He asked a question and before it could be answered, we need to know the policy information and his situation before answering.

There's a good chance you won't get that information.

I hope you are wrong because one of the arguments being put forth is that there will be no savings. Berton asked the question so we can now assume he is interested in the answer.

I would make no such assumption about Berton. Most of his questions are designed to cause trouble imo.

Mike,

We have Blue Cross and the premiums have been climbing ever year since around 2000. This year the increase is $2.25 a month. Truthfully as long as insurance companies are sucking 33 cents out of every medical dollar we spend I expect the increases to continue.
