Happy New Year Tom, I pray all is going well with you and the family. Seven years ago we experienced a three day power outage and as a result...many have in fact taken personal responsibility for preparing for the next one. |

Thanks Mike. All is going well with me and the family. We were one of the fortunate ones that didn't lose power. My stepson lost power for most of the week. They kept their mobile home warm with the gas cooking stove, and melted snow for drinking water. My sister and bil lost power for most of the week also. I loaned them my generator until they could purchase one at the local home depot. HD got a large shipment in and people were waiting in line to snatch them up. I think the time to think about buying a generator is not a couple of days after the power goes out. We invited relatives without power to stay with us, but all wanted to tough it out at home. I read some letters to the editor stating their food in their refrigerators and freezers spoiled and had to be thrown out. Hard to understand that when it's below freezing outside (mother nature's frig). I'm amazed at how inept and dependant some are. I was pretty well prepared, and in the future plan on more measures to weather power outages like extra food and water and a second generator for backup. I just noticed today while walking my dog that my "snow bird" neighbors were back home. And, wonder if it was because of the storm and power outage. Loosing power in mid winter when your away can end up being very costly with busted pipes, toilets etc. etc. It if were me I wouldn't count on the furnace working, and would drain and winterize everything.
