I think the more advanced countries of the world are going to have to recognize that Islamic fundamentalism is a threat to us all, and band together to defeat it or at least get it under some kind of control.

What would you suggest? Isn't the UN and NATO a banding together? Perhaps what it needs (the UN & NATO) is someone to lead, I would suppose, in the effort. Maybe Putin of Russia; or Obama of the US; or Harper of Canada; or Merkel of Germany. Who would be the one to take leadership in the effort?

The UN appears to be powerless in instances like this and NATO can't operate in Russia. It will take all of those entities to combat the threat, imo.

But out of those nations you would include, someone will have to initiate some leadership.

Yes. What are you suggesting? If you are suggesting Obama, how do you know he hasn't tried?

I'm not suggesting anyone, certainly not suggesting Obama.

So, your question was only rhetorical?

In answering your suggestion in your first post, I am saying to do what you suggested would take a leader. Maybe some would prefer Putin, since he seems to be able to take the bull by the horns and since the last two terrorist episodes happen in Russia. Or maybe François Hollande of France since he has shown some leadership with the Libya and Syria problems. Not Merkel, she has shown good leadership economically for Germany and with the EU concerning Greece but nothing for military possibilities over the Libyan and Syrian episodes that would make me think she would be aggressive in what you are suggesting. Obama, no. His strength has not been shown to be in foreign affairs or dealings

"Obama, no. His strength has not been shown to be in foreign affairs or dealings "

Would you care to explain that opinion?
