Good info, Pat. The pace of change is hard for some to accept, but you'd think they'd know by now - all forms of electronics, from computers to cell phones to televisions, go through the same dramatic cost decrease / capability increase, so why would Solar and Wind generators be any different? I guess when you spend so much time wishing it weren't so, it's easy to miss what's happening in the real world. |

Yes, the solar industry is maturing and there have been advances in every phase of it combined with the cost reductions due to increases in competition and decreases in manufacturing cost. There will be waves of builders offering this as the housing market improves and sub-divisions begin anew. Obviously for us old farts, the payback time would b e longer than we probably will live, but for those buying our homes and remodeling, this is the answer. There are now solar homes in the northwest where it rains all the time. Panel efficiency makes this a reality. |

Yes, in Germany, which is far cloudier than most of Canada or the US, Solar power is taking off - I saw one report recently that said new panels covering one side of the roof could supply 100% of the average house's needs with only 17% sunshine getting through the clouds. |

The other interesting thing is, as the technology develops, Solar is more and more suitable to individual houses rather than massive power plants distributing power from a central location. The massive plants would only be needed for large manufacturing sites. As that becomes closer to reality, I expect more propaganda from the Power Companies, who will be losing pretty much their entire industry. |

Here is a good article on solar should you want the facts: http://www.americanthinker.com/2013/12/the_solar_swindle.html |

Sorry, Neut. You need facts to back that up. And no, Bertie's Right Wing hit piece based on two year old policies and equipment don't count. Wikipedia - German Solar Power As the article says, Solar in Germany is on a steep upward curve, doubling every 1 1/2 years. The initial cost is very low for a feed-in tariff and very high for a tax credit. In both cases the learning curve reduces the cost of installation. They are now in the position of EXPORTING power on peak days, dramatically dropping costs. But then, facts are such LIBERAL things... |
