I'm not sure how well Erie, PA would do using solar for energy. Erie's sunny days are: Average 40 Sunny 63 Partly sunny 97 http://www.weathertoday.net/weatherfacts/numbersunny_city.php Link Cloudy 205 We have two 4' x 8' solar panels on the roof of the off-set of our barn to heat and store hot water in an insulated tank. Most of the late spring, summer and early fall we can have 90 to 110 F degree water. Barely any at all the rest of the year. |

That's the installed price. Save more by installing them yourself, and that;s for one homeowner, if a builder puts out for bid on say 50 homes, the cost would go down. Panel prices and controllers and the works have been dropping in price yearly. And the system above is for 100% solar power living, you can install a completer system in stages and pay as you go. For sunny states this is a no brainer. |

As far as I know very few have a solar system and those that do use it for hot water only. |
